I lost my Vera Bradley wristlet/wallet tonight at the Villains Sinister Soiree. I thought I had picked it up with all of my other bags only to realize I had actually left it at the table. We were at the earlier seating and when I went back the CM's said no one had found anything matching the description if my wallet. I'm so depressed! How likely do you think it will get turned in? I leave Monday for home and am not quite sure how I'll board the plane without my license. My license, credit cards, cash, social security card, pearl earrings- are all in there. I feel so sick to my stomach over this :(

Central Lost & Found. Dial 0 from your resort room, or ask for help at Guest Services outside any park.

Boarding a plane without ID is harder but not impossible. Get to the airport early.

Personally, I would be much more worried about the loss of the Social Security card and license. That is all anyone would need to steal your identity. I suggest you call your credit card companies and contact all three credit reporting agencies to freeze your credit. I would also file a report with the police so you have that in case you need it in the future.

I left my purse with wallet and phone at Mickey's PhilHarmagic. (My credit card and Drivers License were in my pocket, thank goodness.) Call Main Lost and Found when they open in the morning. (The front desk can gicve you the number.) I got EVERYTHING back - all cash, $50 Disney Gift Card, phone, and everything else...but it was 3 days later when it was finally located. I called each morning. (Other times we lost lost items were a phone at Epcot - returned, and a purse with $150 cash at Epcot, also returned.) I think there is no better place to lose something.

You could also go to Lost and Found at the TTC and submit a written notice. I did not do this, but saw someone doing it when I went to pick up my purse.

Good luck! pixiedust:

call the Official Lost and Found AT THAT PARK (not the restaurant)-or go there-sometimes it takes time to get to L&F

Did you ever get it back PrincessKT??

Had my purse stolen off the back of my chair at the POFQ food hall. My fault for having it hanging off the back of my chair rather than sitting right on the table in front of me.
They got my magic band, credit card, Canadian driver's license, debit card, birth certificate, and $400 US cash.
Went to the reception area and checked with lost and found just in case. They said 99% of the time, things like this are turned in without incident.

It was never found and when I called to cancel my CC and debit card, they told me the debit card had already been cancelled as someone had tried using it with the wrong PIN several times.
Thank goodness my passport was in the safe in my room.

Yes... I was upset about losing everything, plus the money and magic band, but I was more sickened by the fact that it was very likely to have been another resort guest or employee that did it. I guess I had a false sense of security being at a Disney resort... and now I will never feel safe in the resorts again. We also found out that they do not have any security cameras at the resort. That was an eye opener.

I have found lots of items over the years at WDW and always turn them in without a second though... not sure how some people live with themselves.
Can only hope they are due to get theirs some day.

Thanks everyone!!! I posted this last night when I felt like all hope was lost. We were only away from CRT for like 20 minutes before I realized I had left my wallet behind. I couldn't fathom how no one was able to locate it or reported seeing it, as they had just cleaned after the first party. I was sure another guest had claimed it for their own

But... this morning I called lost and found and they put me in hold to look for it... A few minutes later the lost and found lady came back and said they had it. I picked it up and everything was there- minus the $15 I had. I'm so glad nothing else was taken!

AWESOME!:)

WDW Lost & Found(Parks and Hotels) is the best in the business.:)

I left a lanyard and Pins in my room once and they arrived a few days later in the mail before I even realized I didn't have them!:)

That's great news... but really? Someone had to take the $15 before they turned it in. I have lost all faith in human kind. I can't even imagine what kind of a person it takes to steal so much as a kleenex from someone's property. No matter what... it's theft. Just because someone finds your property, doesn't make it "their" property.

I wonder if they honestly feel they've done a good deed by turning it in and feel like they deserved to take the $15 for being such a "good" person.

Sorry for the rant, but in WDW of all places, I can't believe people would just feel entitled to take your money.

Having said that, I still wish that the person who took my purse would have just snatched the $400 and left the rest behind so I didn't have to do so much legwork to cancel all of my cards and ID.

So happy you got your stuff back and thankful it was only the $15 they took.

It's always possible the cash was taken by one person and the the wallet was turned in by someone else.

Never mind possibly - it's more likely to have been what actually happened.

Handbag thieves ('wallet' and 'purse' you to Americans) will get away from the area as quickly as they can (public toilets are good), go through the bag they have stolen and take what they want/can sell and then dump everything else somewhere convenient as quickly as possible. Sometimes it can be in a trashcan, sometimes into a bush or over someone's garden wall/fence if they're in a street.

My parents used to leave their front door on the latch so you could just walk in - very useful when we were all living at home. However, one day they came out of the lounge where they were watching TV with the door closed to discover that my mum's handbag had gone. Some opportunist came into the hallway, tiptoed right through the hall and into the kitchen, took the bag and then got out again, all without my parents hearing a thing! They don't leave the door on the latch if there's just the two of them anymore, especially as they're getting on and are both a bit deaf.

Anyway, the day after reporting the theft to the police, the bag was found a couple of hundred yards down the street dumped in someone's garden with everything still there except the actual purse wth the money and CCs in.

I never hang my bag on a chair or put it on the floor. If I can't put it on the seat next to me I have a special hook thing which enables me to hang the bag from the table. At the very minimum, I put it right underneath the table between my feet and put my foot through the shoulder strap.

Staying at CBR this year the place was full of foreign cheerleaders or something, and the food hall was packed when we got to it. They all dissipated as we ate our dinner, but then there was a group of girls going round table-to-table, one of whom was in tears; turns out she'd left her iPod on the table and now it was missing! I advised them to ask one of the staff who were clearing tables in the first instance in case they'd picked it up for safekeeping when clearing the tables. But honestly! What is it with teens these days putting expensive iPods and phones etc down on the table in full view and then either taking their eyes off them or even walking away and leaving them there! Something like that can be pocketed by someone passing in the blink of an eye.

And just because it's Disney doesn't mean that theft can't and won't happen!

Why do people carry SSN cards? Really, I am curious. I am 40 and have never ever carried my SSN card anywhere unless I was going somewhere where I knew I needed it like maybe applying for a passport. I keep all six of ours in a safe. I am also military so we are asked for our SSN (last four mostly) so I have DH and mine memorized but no need to memorize the kids.

There are professional thieves that go to Disney every day to steal from distracted guests. They're not necessarily tourists. I was at a show once where the guy sitting right next to me had his camera stolen. We were literally sitting 6 inches apart, with the camera on the seat between us. From then on, I keep my stuff in a bag on my lap.

I had my SS card with me because I had just recently used for my job but had not gotten a chance to put back for safekeeping before leaving for vacation.

Yeah- I was surprised the cash was gone!?? Of all the things to take you would have thought they would find more worth in the earrings and credit cards. The earrings alone are worth over $100?!? I'm thinking maybe a young teen found it and took the cash and then maybe someone else turned it in because it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'm just glad everything else was still there.

I wear a hip pack. I know that they look terrible. I know I look like a tourist. But we are at Disney and I am a tourist.

Wearing a hip pack puts my belongings right in front of me. And since it is attached to me, I very rarely leave it anywhere.

I also make sure that I only take what I need. The rest is left at home. Or hidden in the car.

Oh, and if you can, make copies of what you take. That way you know what you have lost.

For all of the above reasons... it pains me to say that I no longer feel secure the way I used to when we visited WDW. After the discussions with the CMs about how there are no security cameras at the resorts, my eyes were opened even further. Why bother having security gates at the entrance of each resort if just anyone can walk in? It's all for image... false sense of security.

I mean, you can't even sneeze anymore without it being caught on camera... security cameras are everywhere in every town and city. Why Disney wouldn't have them at the resorts is beyond me. As for the parks... surely they must have them there.

Still... it really comes down to the people who do this sort of thing. I don't see them as some dark, hoodie wearing figure, just lurking, waiting to rob every person who sets a personal item down beside them. These are more likely, park guests and possibly even staff who are just unscrupulous individuals and have no sense of conscience or decency.

So glad the wallet was found!
I'm with the crowd voting that the person who turned it in is not the person who stole the $15. Professional thieves want the ccs and ID, so I don't think it was a professional thief who took the cash, nevertheless OP keep an eye on accounts to make sure they haven't been breached.
BTW the earrings may have cost over $100 but on the street they are worth very little.

Yes.
I would put a watch on your credit. Just because they left the card doesn't mean they didn't copy down the info.

Cancel the credit cards, OP. Not worth hoping the cash thief didn't copy that info down, too. The info could be taken even if the cards weren't.

My son is part of a Pokemon club at the YMCA. The youth staff knows that kids steal, I've told DS and his friends that there are thieves among them, and still those kids will leave their cards just sitting all over the place. I've had to be quite loud about it, because he's put a lot of his own money into these cards, and I don't want to deal with him having them stolen. And he KNOWS that I will not be replacing them (I think they are a waste of money and time). I think it's the same sort of thing with the expensive electronics. They just don't think about it.

OP I get that you had the SS card in there b/c of a job. Although DH hasn't had to show a card for new jobs the entire time I've known him (so that's 14 years now) and I hadn't had to show the actual card since...my first job at 16, maybe?, I get that some epople still have to show the card. So at least there was a reason.

I've been trying to get MIL's SS card out of her wallet for years now. There is absolutely NO reason for her to have it. She doesn't work, she's now a citizen, she's not applying for jobs. She should not have it in her wallet. She's so paranoid about identity theft that she will cut her address out of correspondence and shred it, but she carries that key to her identity with her at all times (and recently she has lost her wallet at least once, though she found it again). Makes no sense. At least you had a reason!
