Maybe someone who'se military will know..My military ID was my only governement ID. It was the only gov ID with my pic..The only other id's with pics are from Sam's club and the City Library..Last night I presented my Military ID for the discount at NY and Co. Sometime in the 5 minutes between the walk from there to roomies car I lost the military ID..I had a stroke so i don't drive..I have no other ID..I have my BIrth Ceritificate ,but that's it. I'm enrolled in DEERS as a retiree and I have a statement from DFAS(Defense Finance and Accountiing ) stating that I'm retired. 4 years ago when I got my last ID I had just a DD214 and no Birth Certificate no other picture ID and they gave me a New ID . Does anyone know If I can get one with just my BC if I'm enrolled in DEERS? I'm supposed to fly to chicago in 2 weeks and they won't let my fly without a gov. ID.
Edited to add..I've sent for a copy of my DD 214,but that can take 8 weeks or more.

I don't know about retirees, but my DDs are dependents and ex NEVER sends the paperwork, so I've just taken them to the ID office, explained the situation, show the BC and they issue the cards. It's always been fairly easy for me, but I think the workers usually feel sorry for me (mine are the first in a line of dependents  )

Good luck!

Jenny, I am pretty sure if you go to a military installation and find the ID card office that they will issue you a new ID. Normally, I think you do have to have your DD214, but if you are enrolled in DEERS it is going to show in the system anyway. Just be sure to bring your birth certificate and maybe your SSN card as well so they can verify its you. You might think about finding the ID card office phone # and calling them to see what documents you might need as well :goodvibes

Yep - Being in DEERS is what makes you a "real person". You shouldn't have a problem.

Go on base and get a new one from the ID office.

I agree you should not have any real problems. As for not having a drivers' licencse, our state will issue you a state picture ID that is basically a drivers' license without the priviledge of driving. You should check if RI does the same and then you'll have 2 gov issued IDs. You might even be able to get that faster than a new military ID depending on where your nearest military installation is.

the only problem with this will be getting ON the post or base with no ID-thats usually a NO go-if you live close to a state NG headquarters or large NG armory see if they can help you out

I don't think you'll have a problem. Just explain to the gate guard that you're getting a new id, show whatever id you have if he asks, he'll probably let you right in. If you have a sticker on the car he might not ask for id. As for getting the id card replaced, I've never seen anyone in our office ask for id. I got my ds and dh replaced this year, one expired, the other was stolen, and they only asked for my social since they're my dependents. Just be sure to call first before you go, the new machines seem to go down a lot and some bases will only do id's by appt.
