I have sad news and have seen in the past what a supportive group you are so I thought I'd post for some support. I lost my 14 year old Doxie, Melanie, this weekend. She must have passed at some point during Friday night or early Saturday morning. I woke up and she was gone in the kitchen. She had come into my room earlier on Friday but I didnt think anything of it (she normally just goes to bed). It is so sad. I miss her so much. Her 5 year old sister wont eat and is by my side every second. She is on my lap as I type this.

I got Mellie as a puppy and boy what a pistol she was. Definitely the alpha dog in my house. She was just always so good and never asked for anything. I lost dogs before but I seem to have forgotten how much it hurts. I feel so lost right now. I wish I was with her when she passed. My vet tech (she's known Mellie all her life) said she was a fiercely independant dog and if she wanted me to be there, she would have stayed in my room. She told me that Mellie probably wanted to go her own way and propbably just came in my room to say goodbye. She had been struggling with high calcium levels, an enlarged heart, and an enlarged liver. I knew it was a matter of time but didnt expect it to happen without a warning. The vet said he thinks it was heart failure. Well, sorry this is so long but I am just heartbroken and somehow writing all this helps a little. :paw:

So sorry you have lost your precious furbaby. :grouphug:

So sorry for your loss. It is like losing one of the family :grouphug:

:grouphug: I'm so sorry you lost your baby.
Remember she's up there playing beyond the Rainbow Bridge. :paw:

Very sorry, Carie, to hear about your precious, Mellie. :( She sounds like she was a real pistol, as you said, a wonderful family member for so many years. Pets are such loyal, faithful companions. :goodvibes Know Mellie is there by that bridge, like so many here from the DIS, and her memories will be forever with you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh, Carrie, I'm so sorry!!!

I recently also lost a furry family member, my 14 year old Sambuca. They become such a part of our hearts and our families, and it's so sad when we have to say goodbye.

Sounds like Mellie had 14 wonderful and very loved years, and will always hold a very special place in your heart. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry, for you and your other dog. It must be very confusing for her. :grouphug:

So sorry to hear of your loss. Mellie has so many DIS friends at the bridge, and take comfort to know she is not alone. Losing a family member is so hard, hope you find comfort in the many warm memories she left you. :grouphug:

So sorry to hear about your dog, reading Rainbow Bridge, just brought a few tears to my eyes, remembering my best friend, Kasey.

*hugs* to you!

I am so sorry about your baby. I know how hard it is to lose your beloved dog. My almost 9 year old husky died about 5 years ago very unexpectedly. One minute she was chasing our puppy around the house and the next minute she is gone. Hugs to you and your other baby. I hope she starts eating soon. :grouphug:
