WE could only 'tolerate" the first 30-40 minutes before we turned it off. I simply don't get the accolades this movie got(???)

Did anyone like it?

I know a lot of people who liked it. I am not one of them. And isn't it funny how admitting that you did not like something that the critics loved somehow makes you feel like you were too dumb to "get it"?

Haven't seen it, but wanted to. Maybe not now, though.:earboy2:

I am a Bill Murray fan but I too don't see the merits of this movie. Now, my 17 DS loved this movie.

I think that movies are started to take on the characteristics of video games and that the younger generation loves this, while my generation doesn't get it.

But best director--give me a break. I think her name had a big part in her winning.

you lasted longer than I did. I sat through about the first hour and then turned to my husband and said "I thought this was supposed to be GOOD?"

geeze, it took about 5 weeks for me to get it from Netflix too.

well it's certainly not for everyone, but it certainly was intended for all audiences either. Personally, I LOVED Lost in Translation. I thought Bill Murray's performance was one of the best male acting performances in quite some time. In my opinion he should have won the oscar.

But it's not a movie for everyone!

Jungle Josh :D

I really liked it. I thought it was rather sad. DH did not get it.

I have a college degree, DH has several. Neither one of us liked it-too boring-so count us in the "too dumb to get it" crowd, too.

Ok...I sort of thought it funny when his wife sent the carpet swatches and said she likes the burgundy and whicjh one he liked-they were all shades of burgundy. But it was like a little joke from a sitcom. I rented it because the cover said it was "SO funny". I kept waiting....watching Scarlett staring out the window.....waiting...watching Scarlet lay in bed.....waiting....for the FUNNY part!!!!

I also didn't like the movie. I got it, but I didn't think the film was well done. As an American who has lived in Japan, I felt that Ms. Coppola's movie was very superficial. I don't think she got to the heart of why foreigners are made to feel that way in Japan, or why the Japanese act the way they do toward them.

I liked it! I'm a Bill Murray fan, but I couldn't stand "Rushmore". He had a really strange role in that one!

Add me to the list of Didn't Get It's. A friend lent me her copy of the movie and said she loved it. I watched it and did not get it- and I have a Master's degree!!

Is thought the movie was boring too. I did get it.

The movie pissed me off. Sorry for using that word.

He couldn't communicate with the Japanese people and he couldn't communicate with his wife anymore. (Lost in translation). He needed a swift kick in his butt.

His wife just wanted him to care, still make decisions, even though he was far away. - but he was portrayed as the "poor me", "my wife don't understand me", "she's a ***** when she calls." "I have the right to have an affair". Bill never said any of these things, but it was suppose to show through with his great acting skills.

Sort of reminds me when the movie "Chocolate'" won the best picture a couple of years ago. That movie was a total looser movie too.

I am not a Bill Murray fan...never was. However, i loved this movie
i found it touching and funny (however, it is not a laugh out loud, make you cry funny) i found its humor in the sublities (sp?). it is like everything else some people like others don't.

Nope, didn't get it. And I watched the whole thing!!! For me it was really....'lost in translation'!!!!! At the end I just said to myself...'Yeah, so what? That's it??'

This thread reminds me of when The Piano came out. I went with a good friend and we didn't talk at all during the movie.

I HATED the movie and didn't want to ruin it for her by expressing my distaste during the movie. Turned out that we were thinking the same thing. It was so nice to know that we shared the same taste in movies!!

I also hated The English Patient. There was a funny Sienfeld episode about that.

I LOVED lost in translation. Which is ironic because I totally did not even want to go see it. My boyfriend really wanted to see it though, and he didn't really like it too much. I'll admit though I wish what happened at the very end didn't happen. (don't want to give it away if anyone hasn't seen it and is wanting to). But I did love it. I cried through the whole thing. I don't think it's the kind of laugh out loud movie people made it out to be. The humor is real subtle, and the overall mood is really somber. Atleast that's how I felt when I watched it.

tricia.

LOL! I saw all but the last 30 minutes of this on TV and I won't even bother seeing it again to catch the ending.

Now the "English Patient" was good....it was just so darn looonnnggg and took forever telling what happened(Fried Green Tomatoes did the same thing)!
