My IPOD was stolen this morning at the Y!!!!! I've been going there for over 10 years, at 5:30 am with pretty much the same group of people. Yet, this morning while I was blow drying my hair (the only time where the POD was not on me or locked up) someone went into my bag and stole it. I've got really short hair, so I couldn't have been away from it for more than 2-3 minutes.
I can't imagine how anyone could do that. I've found stuff that others have left behind, and I've turned it in at the desk before I left if I couldn't find the owners. It makes me so sad that someone I have shared my morning with for quite some time would do such a thing. Losing the POD was an economic issue, but losing the trust I had in the people around me is really more painful.

That stinks. When I was in high school, someone stole my sister's shoes. She eventually tracked the girl down and made her take them off during school. I hope you have the same luck and can figure out who took your IPOD. :guilty:

For more and more people, their only consideration is what's best for them. If they can get away with taking what they're not entitled to, they see no problem with that. Very sad. :sad2:

That's horrible! I could see how someone could do it if you left it out in the open, but going into your bag to steal it? That's awful! :furious:

That is too bad. I just don't understand people. When I was little, someone broke into our car and stole my mom's coat. Nothing fancy, no idea why you'd take it. My mom was upset, though. It had belonged to her mom who had recently passed away.

I am so sorry that happened to you............now when you go to the Y you will be looking around wondering which one of you would do that to me???

I do not get how people can treat other people so poorly.....I was recently on a Disney cruise where "entitlement" seemed the word of the day for some.. I do not get it, I will never get it..

Hugs to you...hopefully you can put this behind you at some point and continue with your Y experience..

It's very sad that that would happen to you especially going to a place that you've been going for a while and so you feel you know everyone or vice versa. Sounds like someone saw you with it and just decided they wanted it, certainly not right. :sad2: But try not to lose faith in humanity. Realize not all are like that. :)

I understand how you feel. My DS's cell phone was stolen out of his backpack at school, by someone in his gym class 2 weeks ago. He said that it would have been better to have had it stolen by someone he didn't know and would never encounter again, than by someone he would "see" everyday at school. Why can't people keep their hands off of other people's property? :confused3

I can't even understand that! (if it were left in the open). You just don't take stuff that's not yours!

Sorry you lost your Ipod. :guilty:

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. It totally sucks when someone steals your stuff. But don't lose faith in humanity! I think most people are basically decent. I found a cell phone in a public bathroom last week and turned it in. :)

But, of course, if you don't lock up your stuff, eventually you'll find out the hard way that some people are looking to steal.

So, hang on to that faith! Just be careful.

You know the old saying, "Trust everyone, but always cut the cards." :)

That stinks! We were robbed a few years ago near Christmas in the middle of the day. Guess what they took......

A drill we bought for my dad for Christmas
My leather jacket
Video Camera that still had our video of our DCL cruise in it
1 can of frozen oj
1 brand new container of Cookies n Cream Ice Cream

And

2 Sterling Silver Spoons

On the other hand my inlaws went to NY to see a Yankee Game before they tear down the stadium last weekend. They got into a cab of just a guy who didn't belong to ANY cab co...he was an "independent" and he took the 4 of them to the hotel. They got our, started checking in and my fil realized he left his brand new Fuji $1000 camera in the cab. 15 min later the cab driver brought the camera back and apologized profusely. Same trip mil dropped her cell phone in the theatre while watching Lion King and didn't realize it until much later. She called the theatre and it was turned in. Not all humanity is bad....don't give up hope. Maybe this person will have a "My Name Is Earl" moment and bring it back.

My cell phone was stolen a couple months ago and it really bothered me. I had dropped it getting out of the car and didn't realize it. My dh happened to be standing next to the window and watched a guy bend over and pick something up next to my car. He immediately remembered me using the phone in the car and asked me if I had it. Of course I didn't, I'd laid it on my lap and forgot it.
Dh ran out and caught up with the guy and talked to him. He denied seeing the phone although it was very obvious he had taken it.
It made me feel like everyone's a thief and you can't trust anybody. It took a few days for that feeling to go away and for me to feel better about the whole thing.

How terrible! I'm sorry.

I would not lose my faith in humanity however...just think about the 10 years that your stuff has been safe. All it takes is one rotten person to ruin life for the honest folk.

My DD9, same thing. And judging by the numbers called (and the downloads- total cost of these extras $40.) it was a girl from her group of friends.
We filed a police report but now, since we received the bill, and being almost sure who the "thief" is, I am not sure what to do. Her family is not the best and I think that they are having money troubles too.

To the OP: that is just plain old rotten. Maybe you could bring it up in conversation with out pointing fingers and say how you feel about "losing" your ipod and how you won't be able to afford one for a while because...blah blah blah.... and give some sob story. Maybe the stealer will find a way to get it back to you.

I see things every day that make me think less and less of humanity. There was a story here in Atlanta a few months ago about a wreck where 2 women went over a small embankment (I believe) and hit a building. A man ran out to see what had happened and if everyone was okay. Someone had already called 911 and he was going to stay until the ambulance arrived. One of the women asked if he had a cell phone she could use, and of course, trying to help out, he handed to her so she could call her family or whom ever she needed for support. She then puts the cell phone in her pocket. He looks a little stunned, but thinking she's shook up and not thinking straight, he asks for his cell phone back. She said "I don't have your cell". He tells her yes she does and she argues. The ambulance comes and she still refuses to give it back. Goes to hospital and starts making calls on it. The man starts calling the phone asking for his phone back, when she answers and hears it's the owner, she hangs up. He had to file a police report and they went to her house, where she was still using the phone, and arrested her. It makes me sad how some people are. :guilty:

That was really what killed me. If I had done something stupid like left it on the bench I would have figured it was my own fault, but I was less than 10 yards away. Whoever it was must have watched me put it in the bag and waited until I went to dry my hair to go in and take it.

I do believe that what you give out, you get back so whoever did this will get theirs. The thing is, the POD was a special present to celebrate my getting into Law School, so it wasn't just a cool toy. It marked an achievement.

I was thinking though, what if it was someone that took it because their kid wanted one and they couldn't afford such a fancy present for them. Maybe some kid is going to get the kind of Christmas present that they never have before.

My DD's ipod mini was stolen last year from the Y after school program. The thing that really P'd me off was that when it was time to clean up to go out side for free play, she tried to pack up her belongings and was told by a "teacher" to leave it out as they were going out "NOW". So she left it out, in the classroom, on top of her homework. I contacted the Y, but to no avail. I wanted to get the cops involved, but her father advised against it as she needed to spend another year in the afterschool prgram and he didn't want any negative effects to be taken out on her.

If it wasn't a teacher, the only other person it could be was a fellow student. I thinkit was b/c her "DC" brand case was found in the toy bin. What kind of parent would see their child come home with an ipod and not make them return it?? Yo MUST notice an expensieve item like that suddenly appear.

My former nanny was visiting and had her mini here in my complex at the fitness center. She forgot it on a peice of equipment, when she went bak 1/2 hr later.....GONE! We posted fliers...but no luck.
