on may 11, only hours after being on property (not even checked into PBH yet), i left our diaper bag in IOA right before closing in a restaurant. i realized that i lost it as soon as i checked in to PBH about 1/2 hr later. the park was closed & i was put on hold w/ many people who looked for it - nothing. i called the next day...nothing. i gave up easily b/c my DH said to just forget about it - there was nothing of value in it & we could get by w/out it (although not easily as i had my kids' medication in it - we went immediately to the pharmacy in our rental car to fix that situation).
well, apparently it was returned in tact (minus the food at this point - they wisely took it out) on may 13. i didn't call after 2 days of trying & i should have since i was in fla until the 16th. i just found out that it was found b/c i decided to call today out of curiousity to see if it was returned. i hestitated to even call b/c i had no way to retrieve it. to my surprise, it was there & they will be mailing it to me. i'm lucky b/c i think that i heard someone say that they donate items found & not retrieved after 4 weeks? or some specific amount of time.
i write this just to let others know that items lost in the parks don't always find their way to lost & found right away. one person at lost & found had commented initially that restaurants tend to be slow at bringing it over to the lost & found office for some reason. i did get a business card from lost & found at US for IOA's direct phone line & i would advise others to do the same & just keep calling. also, in the event that they do find it, they'll mail it to you! i commented to the lost & found employee that this was a wonderful service that they were providing.
