Hi everyone!!

I just discovered this thread. In June my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. I immediately started both of us on path of a much healthier lifestyle. Both of us are down 35 pounds...I keep telling myself how great that is!! But it has become soooooooo slow and tedious. I can only make 1 pound a week now. (I know I should be happy)...but I find myself almost discouraged by it.

Guess I need a big dose of motivation & positive attitude!! :teeth:

Thanks for reading,

Kristine

Congratulations on that awesome loss. Hang in there. One pound a week is really a good and sensible rate to lose the weight. I've lost 30 pounds in the past year. Definitely not as fast as I would like, but I'm hoping that means it will stay off. Hang in there. Slow and steady really loses the weight for good. You can do it!!! :cheer2:

 Kristine,

I know 1 pound a week seems discouraging but 1 to 2 pounds a week is what most diet and excercise plans recommend. That is what I have been averaging between 1 to 3 pounds a week now, my first two weeks in January I lost about 8 pounds a week, after that slightly less but now it is about 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Both you and Bill had a very rapid start up weight loss because you had a complete diet overhaul. You are doing great. I know 1 to 2 pounds isn't as thrilling as the large numbers that you were seeing but you have a much better chance of keeping the weight off if you lose it slowly than if you lose it quickly. At least that is what the stuff I have read says.

That aside maybe try a new type of excercise to jumpstart your weightloss again.

:wizard: and :grouphug: to get you through this. Just think you have come so far from where you were. Just don't get discouraged by this slower pace. I know I wish my weight would come off faster too but it just isn't happening. I know that you can do this. Just keep swimming. :thumbsup2

Oh yes, a pound a week is good. It helps to keep your muscle tone from to far out of fit. I am at a pound to a half pound a week myself. Although I remained at the same for nearly all of the last 6 weeks of summer. This forum really helps with the positive attitude and support!

SO, good luck, and keep up the great losses!

Good health to you and your husband.

Wendy

Hey Kristine!

One pound a week is healthy and nothing to be discouraged about. But, I understand the feeling of a "weight-loss plateu (sp?)" and they feel like they last forever!

Try changing up your work-out routine a little bit to jump start it back up. If you normally use the treadmill for 30 minutes a day and thats it try using it for 15 at a quick pace (4 mph or so) and then doing squats and lunges for 10 before working on your arms for another 10 or so. Your body gets used to your work-out and it stops being as effective as it was at first. A simple change in machines and time can make a huge difference!

Welcome to WISH Kristine!

Your desire to be a healthier you is the best thing you can do for yourselves. Don't give up. Keep making those healthy choices and you WILL continue to have a better life. It sure is not easy, but look at what you've managed.

Remember it took a while to get that weight on, it will take a while to get it off. After a time things do slow down a bit. I like the advice already given about changing things around some. Your body gets used to things and then settles some. Don't forget there is probably a good amount of muscle toning going on if you are doing some exercise and that good muscle does weigh more than the bad fat.

Keep at it, join in here with some of the fun challenges to help you keep on keepin' on.
