Losing Weight for my Master's & Beating Diabetes-Comments welcome and appreciated

Jessi, your attitude is really good! I get the same way when Aunt Flo (love that name :rotfl: ) visits me! Just another joy of womanhood.

Your weigh in may not be as bad as you think. But good job going in anyway.

Keep up the good attitude, a new weigh in means a new start and new flex points! Good luck with the meter.

I actually lost .8 last week! I was totally doing a happy dance at the scale because my scale at home showed a gain. My goal this week is to be a superstar at the BL challenge.

Great job on the weight loss Jessi! Its amazing how each scale is different. Keep up the good work!:yay:

I lost .8 this past week. (maintained the week before.) I've been having some stomach issues so haven't been concentrating on the eating plan so much as finding foods that won't make me feel sick.

I moved up my doctor's visit because of my stomach problems. I have a referral to an endocrinologist (diabetes doctor) to get that sorted out and hopefully get a definitive answer of what type I am. That is in April.

As far the stomach issues go, I was told that I probably have food allergies or irritable bowel syndrome. I call the allergist on Monday to make the appointment and we'll go from there. In the meantime I am to take Benefiber and Zantac.

I gained 1.8 this week :grumble grumble:. I know why, I was on the cycle and my stomach problems decided to manifest themselves this week with constipation. Growl. Oh well, I am back on the program and counting points. I really want to exercise, but I have had to stick quite close to the bathroom the last few days so activity seems to be not so much a good idea (plus stomach cramps so bad you can't stand up straight make it hard to do aerobic exercise). My Girl Scout cookies were delivered yesterday and I'm proud of myself: I put them into single serving baggies with the points marked on them and stuck them in the freezer. I was able to do this without going to town on them. I even gave half of my box of thin mints (one tube) to the Amish guys on the roof.

I've been journalling my day ahead of time in pencil, and that has been helping a lot. I've ended up eating less than I planned for and really staying within my points. I have high hopes for this coming week.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well this week. I hope you are feeling better now!:goodvibes

Great idea with the Girl Scout cookies!:thumbsup2

I hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks Tracey!

Today was a good day. My fourth graders are coming to my hometown this week (I live in the state capital) so my father and I walked around the capital and took pictures. I'm doing a presentation for them on Monday giving them a little history on our capital so they know what to expect. I shared a bowl of soup at Panera with my father and had iced tea, had a bowl of cereal as a snack, and then we went out for BBQ. I saved most of my points, took small portions, and stayed within my points. We even got in a walk with my puppies.

I'm so excited. My parents randomly started discussing the possibility of Disney for my Master's trip. At first I was told no Disney so we were going to do DC. Then with the economy the way it is we said stay in the state and maybe do Branson. Now Disney is a possibility. I was uploading pics onto my new computer last night and many were pics from my three college programs. It was kind of sad to see how thin I used to be compared to now, but at the same time it is very motivating. This is one my father took of me performing in Hoedown in Frontierland, about 20 lbs lighter than I am now:

Some more photos from that time since I haven't posted photos in awhile:

Great pics :)
i'm sure those pics will motivate you ;) you look great in them but you still look lovely now - inside & out :)

Jessi, love the pics! I hope your stomach is better, that is no fun. Great job staying within points.

Hope you have a super weekend!:)

It's been way too long since I updated. At this point I know I can't make my goal by May, but I can at least try to lose about 5 or 10 lbs. That would be nice! I started over last week at an all time high of 156.4. I haven't been super good this week but have been really trying to listen to my body and not eat when I feel full. Sometimes having stomach problems comes in handy. Without counting points I lost 1.8! That's the most I have lost in a long time and I really needed it to stay motivated.

I'm still on that stinking roller coaster. Still about the same weight. Since i last updated I was hired by a school district in the Kansas City metro area. I will be teaching in an elementary behavioral and social skills room. I am super excited about it. I've started looking at houses online and might view some next week when I go up to observe the room and talk to the current teacher.

Over spring break I had my endocrinologist appointment. He explained to me how prediabetes could have come on so suddenly (basically I have had it for awhile but performing kept the gene from expressing itself) if indeed that is what it is. He performed several blood tests to determine if it is type 1.5. I am still awaiting the results. The week after graduation I have some repeat bloodwork done and will be wearing a continuous glucose monitoring system. It's a sensory that goes just below the skin. It attaches to your abdomen and a transmitter attached to it. It takes readings every minute which will then be downloaded at the doctor's office.

In the meantime I was given a different eating plan to help try to help stabilize my blood sugars. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. That will start once my Master's research is completed.

Hi Jessi,

Congratulations on getting a teaching job!!!!:teacher: My brother lives in Manhattan, Kansas. Is that near Kansas City?

I hope the new eating plan works out for you. :goodvibes I know that waiting for the results of your tests and your bloodwork must be frustrating. We'll be praying.

I hope you have a good day ahead.

Thanks! I have no clue where Manhattan, Kansas is, so I couldn't tell you.

I weighed in tonight, and gained a bit of weight. I think it was either .8 or 1.2 (I know it wasn't exactly 1). I like their scale better than mine. When I weighed on my scale after school it showed me gaining 3 lbs! Of course, your weight fluctuates, but I'm glad I didn't skip weigh in. The meeting tonight was about tracking and I really needed that.

I'm kind of torn on this whole tracking thing. I know I need to, but I'm going to be on the road this weekend (meeting up with a friend from my old college who developed Type 1 at the Chicago Diabetes Expo) and I have a very hard time tracking/staying on track while on the road. But then I look back and realize almost every week is like this and will be for the conceivable future and I need to be able to do this when it's hard. So I guess I've talked myself inot tracking. Isn't it great how that works? :rotfl:

Hi Jessi, congratulations on your teaching job! That is great news, there are some students out there that will be getting very lucky in the near future with you as their teacher!

Tracking is the hardest thing to do in many ways, but I find it has the most direct impact on my own weight loss. So no idea why I do so badly at it but I hear you on needing to find a way to make it happen! You can do it.

That's great your doctor has you doing this monitor, that may really help them get the answers they need.

Glad your scale was lying!
