Season Premier ... Tuesday, June 1, 2010. 10pm on NBC!!!

NBC has partnered with popular health and wellness expert Jillian Michaels ("The Biggest Loser") and Giancarlo Chersich (Empowered Media) along with "The Biggest Loser" producers Mark Koops and Howard T. Owens of Reveille and former "Oprah" executive producer Ellen Rakieten for a riveting new life-changing alternative series "Losing It With Jillian."

In the series, Michaels invades a different family every week to give them her own characteristic brand of tough love. She will get to the bottom of the issues each family member faces -- ones that affect their health and happiness -- and will arm them with the tools necessary to make life-altering changes.

The series will also feature celebrity chef Curtis Stone who will enhance Michaels' efforts by ridding the family's kitchen of all unhealthy foods and educating them on proper nutrition, healthy ingredients, cooking tips and recipes.

The show itself seems similar to You Are What You Eat, except with more biggest loser type things, I think.

We watch BBC's "You Are What You Eat", it's always an eye-opener when Gillian McHeath has the subject's food-intake for a week laid-out on what I call The Table of Shame :sad2:.

Does anyone else wonder... Just how qualified is Jillian Michaels to be handing out counseling advice? I know she's quite popular and successful but she doesn't seem to be certified as a dietician or as any type of social worker or even (gasp) as an athletic trainer.

agnes!

I love the Biggest Loser (I was SO happy for Michael!:lovestruc), and I'm going to give this show a chance. Gillian seems like a really good trainer, so it will be interesting to see how she interacts with people outside of the gym.

I agree 100% with the PP about her giving counseling advice, though. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about mental health issues (to make a long story short, I have anxiety and depression issues and resulting low self-esteem), and I have seen several contestants on the show who obviously looked like they needed the help of a trained professional to deal with their issues. I believe that you can't be truly successful until you deal with them, or else you're getting short-term gain but still have the long-term pain.

Oh, and is anyone else hoping that there won't be any over-the-top, blatant product placements like there were in the Biggest Loser? "Here, have some FIBRE ONE!". "Let's go to SUBWAY for a nice, healthy meal!". After awhile I started expecting when these would happen, and I'd laugh my rear off! :rotfl:

I checked G. McKeith's website and she does have some kind of degree in Holistic Nutrition but I have no idea if it's acredited or hocus pocus as I'm out the door and don't have time to look up the school.

I always kind of wonder how some of the people on YAWYE actually ate all the stuff they showed. It was crazy sometimes! And while some of the stuff she makes people eat actually sound pretty good, most of it just saound unpallatable.

As for Losing It, I'll give it a shot. Of course, hopefully it won't do what YAWYE does and just make me hungry.

OK ... who didn't cry? *sniffle*

It wasn't as good as I thought it might be with too much Jillian psycho-babble. I like Jillian and all, but I'm not sure I liked this show. Or, for that matter, the family. Next week we get hoarders. Oh, goody.

I have to say I really enjoy The Biggest Loser and like Jillian--however that said this show did not do it for me. I'll probably tape next week but if it is the same I'll take it off my dvr schedule and just wait till fall for TBL to come back on.

Yeah, I was sort of disappointed. I mean the end scene at the wedding was dumb. They walk down the aisle like they are walking out on the makeover show.

But alas, I am a Bigges Loser addict so I will probably watch it every week!

My husband and daughter liked it a lot.

It was very sad about their baby.

When Jillian gets that whispery, wistful voice and bores holes in somebody with her eyes trying to reach them, I want to laugh then barf.

I was very happy with no Jennie O, Fiber One, Extra Sugar Free Gum or Subway plugs!

I was really looking forward to this show but I was pretty dissapointed. I was hoping for more scenes in the kitchen, maybe showing her replacing the family's unhealthy food for healthy food, and a day's worth of menu's, or more on how to cook healthy food, and the exact workout plan she would recommend for them. It was a lot of psyco-babble, with a LOT of crying- it was great how she got the family to open up about their problems, but it just wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for from her program.:confused3 I guess I was hoping for more specific nutrition and fitness help (she is Jillian, after all!), and less counseling.

Exactly. I would have preferred to see more of THAT instead of 20-30 minutes dedicated to the wedding. And then welcoming Jillian like she's a long lost sister. C'mon! She only spent 5 days with you. I suspect they already knew that the show was going to pay for the wedding.

The other thing I didn't like was how Jillian got into the family's grill and screamed at them ala Biggest Loser. I know that's classic Jillian that I LOVE on BL, but when it's directed at a real family ... not so much. I felt like Monster Jillian didn't belong on the show.

I guess I was looking more for a the side of Jillian that we see on the BL once the contestants love and admire her. Not the screaming monster.

Yeah, the yelling got old. Jillian yelling at the family, the family members yelling at each other.

I felt like they tried to make it all into this neat package of, this family is dysfunctional due to not dealing their grief. So they deal with the grief and oila! they all lose weight.

I too would have liked to see them really working after Jillian left. The big reveal was not that helpful because we didn't get to see them do much at all once Jillian left.

They could make this show way better.

And when the mom was yelling at the dad, it was just a redo of Sheryl (daris' mom) yelling and screaming back in episode one of last season. Like all we women need to do is find our voice and we'll have it halfway figured out.

I liked it but did not LOVE it ... :guilty:

Like you all have posted, I wanted more recipes ... like when Jillian took the daughter shopping, that was great (as they all stated they did not eat anything green ) and then I wanted to see Jillian show them how to make the meals. All the while she is giving us, the viewing audience tips as well, you know.

I did read somewhere that Chef Curtis Stone would be joining her on her new show ... soooo :confused3 maybe that is to come with the healthy cooking.

Ya, the screaming gets old.

I loved seeing my NEW ENGLAND. The place Michelle had her wedding was beautiful. Jillian paid for the wedding and the honeymoon!!! :goodvibes

The family did look really good after their 6 weeks of w/o's!!!

The preview for next week ...

ALSO the show will now be at 8pm on Tuesday nights!!!:thumbsup2

Blah, this doesn't sound like my kinda thing. I think I *will* watch Biggest Loser next season tho, there's a lot of love for that show in my workplace office. :) I wonder if I can find last season's episodes to try to get up to speed, and watch 'em during the summer...

I wish I had known it was going to be on again tonight. I wouldn't have stayed up late last night to watch it. I did like it and I will watch again but I agree with the other comments regarding more nutrition tips and less yelling in the gym.

I watched this, but it fell flat for me. Part of the BL appeal is that there's definitely a transformation, but it's over several months. Jillian has 5 days with each family. It's just too simplistic. Yell at the family. Shop for vegetables. Get everyone to share emotions. Voila! I wonder if they underwent any type of counseling off-screen?

I like BL, but didn't like this. I wanted to like it, but just didn't.
