We have reservations at Hunting Island State Park next week. We haven't tent camped since maybe 2007. I am not sure I even know what to pack, other than some sassy pants! :thumbsup2

This will be a dry run for our trip in Nov. Prayers will be appreciated!

ETA: I posted pictures from our trip in posts 14 and 15.

Don't worry. Even a bad day camping is better than a good day at work! You'll have a great time!

Have a great trip M6! Make sure you have paper and pen to take notes of what you wish you had packed.

:yay: I love Hunting Island!!!! You'll be 2 1/2 hours from my front door!

You better make sure you have lots of bug spray....the very strong kind. Those skeeters down there are rough!!!

Oh, ...and a fan too. It's hot and it will help with the mosquitoes.

A grill. They're not provided. Unless something has changed.

A flashlight. It's dark at night and at some point, someone will need to potty.

My dad always says you only need flip flops and a swimsuit at H.I.

Don't forget your camera. There are endless photo ops there. Get up early and you will be able to capture stunning sunrises. ;)

Most of all don't forget your sense of adventure.

Prayers are being provided. :littleangel: Have an awesome trip!

Definitely post pix if you don't mind -- I've heard a lot about HISP and it's on my "must try" list. How long are you staying?

Ours too! I can't wait to camp there, I've heard such great things about the park. I'll bet you have a wonderful time!

We are home from our four day trip. We had a blast, though the mosquitos were vicious. If you want to camp there, try to make a reservation now for next summer and get a beach side site. I will try to post pictures soon!

WOW ... with six in that age range my hat is off to you and hope you have a good time and make any bumps you encounter not "bad experiences" but "MEMORIES". Start now instilling in the this will be an experience to remember.

No! We were not beach side and suffered for it. We were about 70 feet from the beach. Once I left the beach and walked to the next line of campsites, I was being bitten again.

I checked if the best sites are available next summer, and they are fully booked from May 1st to August 18th, which was the limit of what they book (11 months in advance). I am hoping that by checking next June, I can get a site for May 2012, Lord willing.

Just be glad you weren't on the "backside" of the campground. The mosquitoes back there will leave nothing but a heap of bones. We tried to let the kids play on the playground back there on our last trip and could only take it for about 15 minutes even in the middle of the day. Fierce!

With the changes in the way you make reservations, it's gotten VERY difficult to get a good site at H.I. I hope you get the one you're looking for next year! ;) Maybe you can get one of those really great beachfront tent sites. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to the pics...and so very glad you had a nice trip.

Here is a picture of the Fishing Pier.

This is from the same spot, but looking toward our site. Yes, we had a very long clothesline.

We also had an 8-man tent, a two-man tent, two pup tents, and three hammocks.

Another picture of our site.

Another from the top of the lighthouse. The telescope shows where the lighthouse used to be.

This was a cute t-shirt at the camp store.

The wildlife we saw (but did not photograph - sorry!) included an eagle, pelicans, dolphins, a horseshoe crab, deer (being fed by hand by another camper), and racoons. We arrived just after the alligator had walked through the campground.:scared1: Speaking of wildlife - no alcohol permitted. But we did have wonderful campfires!

looks like a great campground and sounds like you had a great time. anymore pics??

Thanks for sharing the pictures -- looks like a great campground. I can't believe it's so tough to get in! I know up at Myrtle Beach State Park, there are so few full hookups it's hard to snag them, but you can usually grab a partial.

Glad you had a great time!

Most times you can get a spot there, as long as you don't mind not being near the ocean. The trouble is, once you are away form the ocean, you start having to deal with the mosquitos. The further you get froom the ocean, the worse they get. Based on our recent exerience, i don't think we will go back until we can get an ocean front site.
