are close to the Amtrak station? We're staying at the Contemporary so I guess it's not imperative to rent a car, but just for convenience. If we don't rent a car, what other options do we have to get us to the Contemporary? Will Mears, Happy Limo, or Tiffany Towncar pick us up at the station? How do I find out?

Any info would be very appreciated, Carla

We came into the Orlando station in Septmeber. I believe Hertz has a rental counter in the station. Any of the car services you mentioned will pick you up there...just give them a call. Tiffany picked us up...a little late, but they did finally show up.

When we went in August Coach USA was at the station when the train pulled in. The day before our trip I called Mears and tried to arrange a pick up. I was told that they would not have a van waiting for us, when the train arrives you have to call the office and they'll send a van over to pick you up. We used Coach uSA, they cost more than Mears would have but we did not want to wait for Mears to show up.

Kathy & disneyjunkie,

How did you both like traveling Amtrak? We are considering doing the Amtrak thing in December.
What pointers can you give me. We are traveling from Philly. Is it a long ride on a train? What are the
facilities like on the train? How about food? How is luggage handled (since I always over pack!!!).
How did you feel when you arrived the next day? Was it easy to sleep on the train? Sorry for all the
questions but this is the first time we will travel by train to Florida.

Thanks

I just heard on the news that Amtrak is planning to cancel several of its long-distance scheduled runs...be sure to check that yours isn't one of them......(good luck)

Hi Barb,
Amtrak was not too bad, although I had a tough time sleeping. If we did it again, I would get a sleeper car. I saw many people who seemed to sleep well, but I just couldn't get comfy even though the seats are very roomy and recline back with leg support. If you do go Amtrak and don't get a sleeper...bring blankets...it gets chilly. YOu might also want to invest in some travel pillows because the ones Amtak hand out weren't so great.
The food was good...a little on the expensive side.
Luggage...we came out of Boston and there was no checked baggage, so we carried it all on...2 large suitcases, one smaller suitcase, a stroller, and 4 backpacks...there seemed to be plenty of room, but you had to carry it all on and off yourself. In DC, you can check your bags with out a problem.

The ride to me was very long, but my kids 8 and 2.5 at the time had a great time. Bring books and travel games to keep busy...although the lounge car sometimes shows movies. They try to keep the families with young children on the same car on the long distance trains (out of DC down to Florida), so if you have young kids you'll probably be with many.
Train into Florida was early, but going home we missed our connecting train in DC because out train out of Orlando was late.

Have fun...and if I can answer any other questions for you, just ask.

Hi, we just booked for June. I have a few questions. First what types of food are avalable? We have a picky eater. Is there a kids menu? chicken nuggets and such? How much should I plan on per person for food? 2 adults 3 children 6, 4, and 2? Any tips for young children travleing? They are used to long rides as we take many 10 hr trips in the car. Thanks for any help
