DW Sue and I were watching the Olympics a couple of nights ago when she noticed something moving on our deck. Just as I turned to look, I saw a set of eyes peering in at us through the sliding glass door. Sue is not fond of the woodland creatures that seem to frequent our house, so she let out a bit of a scream. I looked a little more closely and saw a second set of eyes. I decided to investigate. I turned on our deck light and there were FOUR raccoons wandering around on our deck. A couple of them were nibbling on acorns that have fallen from the large oak tree. The other two were looking for something else to eat. One was sniffing at our charcoal grill, hoping to find a tasty morsel. The lights didn't bother them one bit. I started banging on the sliding glass door. They gave me "the look" and continued as if I weren't there. I turned off the deck light, closed the drapes, and sat back down on the couch, turning my attention back to the Olympics.
I guess living at our house is kind of like having a permanent savannah view. With all the squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, and occasional possums, my backyard rivals the Animal Kingdom any day of the week.
