We would like to spend a four day weekend in an oceanfront hotel on the Eastern Seaboard. Looking for a destination that is a one day drive from Buffalo New York, (no more than 12 hours tops) (which eliminates Myrtle Beach SC) Where should we go in October? Main criteria is the hotel or resort needs to be oceanfront with an indoor pool. We are open to suggestions. We are a couple with a 6 year old.

Come to NH and you can see the ocean AND the mountains and do some leaf peeping! If you aren't into that, how about Maine.... Old Orchard Beach is kind of a fun place..... lots of ocean front hotels/motels.

Please keep in mind that if you are planning for Columbus day weekend, you may have trouble finding a room at this late date. That is a VERY BUSY time of year for the foliage areas...........P

You have many choices in MA, NH or RI. You'll have to narrow down where you want to go. You might start by looking first for hotel availability. With a 6 year old, you should consider the Boston area; lots of fun things for kids to do there.

We love the Holiday Inn & Suites on the boardwalk in Ocean City, Md. (17th street) It's affordable in the off season, oceanfront, magnificent views, & all units are like small apartments - full kitchen & all. They also have a tiki bar at the indoor pool as well as a café, restaurant, & game room. You literally walk out of the hotel & you're on the boardwalk with direct beach access. You can also ride bikes on the boards which is awesome! I highly recommend this hotel.

Just realize that if you are in New England, that indoor pool is the only place you are going to want to swim. The beach is nice for walking on in October, but not for swimming. And yeah, as someone else said, you might find you are out of luck on Columbus day weekend. And if your goal is seeing foliage, post-Columbus day in New England is not going to be at peak foliage, you'll need to go further south.

Yeah skip New England...you're from Buffalo & know how cold it is. You may be surprised by the temperature difference in Maryland.

If you are going this weekend beware there is a huge rainstorm from a hurricane that will be moving up the east coast. They say to expect 12" of rain!

Oh, I forgot to add that children eat for free!
