We are looking to rent out our 280 SSR points this year. However, we would prefer to rent to Canadians so we don't have to deal with the exchange rates and the bank commissions associated with it.

I can book SSR 11 months out and any other DVC resort 7 months ahead of time. Please feel free to PM or email me with any questions or requests.

We are asking $10 USD per point, or $12.50 CDN per point

Maybe this would be better on the Rental board but I wanted to target Canadians. I'll leave it up to the moderator.

Good deal that is very cheap for points. Another avenue is to make reservations for good weeks like Presidents week sun-thurs and easter and t giving week and post them on e bay that way people pay you up front and you have no worries and you will likeley get more money per point.

I think it's a great idea that you've posted here, because probably many Canadians feel the same way about the hassle of foreign exchange money orders, etc. Can't help you out as my sister has points we are renting ;) but just wanted to say to anyone that has considered doing it, they absolutely should try it ! :goodvibes

Our experience renting points from a fellow Cdn Dis'er for our trip this past January was awesome! No problems getting the ressies we wanted, we had a fabulous studio at WL.

The value of the room for the price you pay is unsurpassed. You cannot beat such a great deal. Points are higher on the weekend, but even at 8nights including 2 weekend nights, it was cheap in comparison to even discounted room rates.

I think your pricing is about bang-on given the current exchange rate, because there are lots on the rent/trade board for $10 US. And you don't want to price yourself out of the market.

Good luck with the rentals ! Hope those points are snatched up soon! :flower:

Could someone explain how this works?

Easy as pie..:)

A DVC owner has points at one of the DVC resorts...OKW,BCV,BWV,WLV,SSR,HHI,VB...and for some reason - not using their points, needs the cash...whatever... - and decide to *privately* rent them to someone who wants the luxury of DVC accomodations for a fraction of the price.

It's a transaction that requires a fair bit of trust on both parts...but the majority of transactions appear to work out fabulously well.:)

You can read more on the DVC Rent/Trade Board...sticky at the top about renting points:)

HTH!!

Mom_rules- we have done this three times with great results. If you go to the DVc board there is a section at the top that will lead you to the "points chart". From there choose the resort, time of year, and size of unit. Multiply the points per night by $10 and that is the total each night- tax included.

I always sent a US money order to the person I rented from so in this case it would be much easier to send CDN funds.

yyzgurl- what is your use year. I might be interested in March break again.

Since I've had so many people email me asking what I am renting, I figure I should explain it here.

I am a Disney Vacation Club member, which essentially means that I own Disney Timeshare. We are allocated a certain number of points every year, depending on how many we purchase in our initial contract. These points are used to book time at the 7 Disney Vacation clubs and beyond. The number of points required vary depending on resort, size of unit and time of year.

For example:

A studio (up to four people and an infant) at Disney Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa is 95 points for the week of September 2-9.

A two bedroom (up to eight people) at the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is 270 points for the same week.

These are vacation homes rather than hotel rooms. This means ALOT more room and amenities. A studio comes with a kitchenette (microwave, fridge, sink, cutlery, etc), patio, and laundry facilities on site. A one/two/three bedroom comes with a full kitchen (stove, diswasher, fridge, microwave, etc), dining room, living room, whirlpool, patio, washer and dryer, etc). However, they still have all the perks of a hotel like pools, restaurants, Disney transportation, etc.

These units can be booked with Disney like regular hotels put are extremely expensive. The studios start at $259 USD a night during value season and are more expensive during high season.

Because I own my points, I am able to rent them out to people who would like to stay at the Disney Vacation Clubs. It's a win-win situation because my points don't go to waste and the renter saves tons of money.

example:

I rent my points out at $10 USD per point ($12.50 CDN)
7 nights at the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is 270 points

$10 x 270 = $2700 USD

The exact same reservation through Disney costs $4331.81 USD

Disney Vacation Club guests have the same perks as other hotel guests, including Disney's Magical Express, Extra Magic Hours, Pool hopping, etc.

Please note that this is a perfectly legitamate way to stay a Disney Vacation Club and that Disney is fully aware that this occurs frequently. In fact, for those who don't know, there is a whole forum dedicated to renting points out on Disboards!

If you do decide to rent, you would give a 25% deposit upfront and the rest would be due 31 days prior to checkin. The reservation confirmation would be sent to you under the renter's name and you would be able to call Member Services to ensure that it's in good standings.

I hope this explains renting DVC points a little better. If you have any questions, feel free to PM or email me janet@ebox.com

I just wanted to add that our upcoming October trip will be our second time renting DVC points. Both times have been great, no problems and would recommend it to anyone, just be smart about it.

I wish I could have found a Canadian owner, much less hassle with the payments etc., but for what I wanted, I could only find an owner in the U.S.
at the time.

I agree with putting your post here, good idea! Hope you get your points rented!

ONE WARNING: Once you stay at at DVC resort, you won't want to stay anywhere else after that!!!! :teeth:

Hi, I'd also like to know your use year. We're looking for January 2006, the marathon week.

280 points left.

Just to let you know, when I checked availability for someone today, I found out there are some studios left for Christmas week!
