We are planning, Lord willing, to be tent camping at the Fort November 7-11. I definitely want to hang out some Lime Green Mickey Ears so DISers will know to stop by and hassle me about my clothesline. ;)

But $$ is very tight. I have seen some really impressive Ears in various posts. Those would be great, with lots of money for wood and a jigsaw.

Anyone have suggestion of a cheap and easy way to make some Ears and hang them at my site?

If you have a color printer, just print them, and place them in a plastic sheet protector, (or in a laminating sheet) then tape them to your site number pole.

If you don't have a color printer, you can get a sheet of appropriately green paper in the scrapbooking section of a craft store. It goes about $.99 a sheet here. They will also have the laminating plastic.

Mine weren't expensive.

I used round discs from a craft store, craft wire and the green paint was only $1.00. It was one of those very small tubes of acrylic craft paint.

A lot of people attatch a wooden stake instead of hanging them.

You could probably do it that way for under $10.

Go get the alien green paint sample for free at home depot, then laminate it with packing tape. You can also use an old key ring you have lying around so you can attach it to your backpack. You could also stick them to your resort window. This should be next to free! :thumbsup2

Thanks - this should work for someting to carry around the park, but not for my campsite.

KFK - Thanks, if I have an extra $10, I may do this. At this point, I have $5 saved of the $400 I need for the trip. I am hoping to come up with some way to make $395 in the next 2 months so we don't have to cancel our ressie. :sad1:

We did a yard sale to raise the final bit of money we needed for our trip....we made like $800.

Here are my ears....$7 for wood...$10 or so in paint...$3 in stickers and a little blood sweat and tears

We printed ours out and went to Office Depot and had them laminated. Since you have time, you could always paint them on a piece of plywood and spray a sealer over them.

I like the previous suggestion of scrapbook paper for $1...sometimes you can get it for less if you go with the 8 1/2 x 11 size. The printout with a sheet protector is a good idea too.

I also like this idea. If you have any scrap wood lying around, perhaps you could borrow a saw from someone. If we lived closer together I'd do it for you.

The 2 oz. bottles of acrylic craft paint go a long way and would be plenty to paint them with.

I initially had a hard time finding wooden disks even in the craft store and considered saving lids from butter tubs and other food products and making mine out of those.

Good luck! Hope you find a solution that fits the budget and good luck to you raising the rest of the cash you need. :goodvibes

I made this last week after trying three different craft stores for wooden disks:

I bought the wood at Walmart for about $3.00, the paint at Home Depot (I think the sample was $2.49) and the letters at JoAnn Fabrics for $2.79. Printed the Mickey from the internet.:)

Cheapo "laminating" use clear contact paper. :thumbsup2

We will be tent camping Nov 6-13 and I will be hanging out some ears also. Maybe we will see each other. :goodvibes

Pick up a big Magic Marker from Wal Mart. When you get to the Fort just steal a sign from another site while the occupants are at the parks. Mark out their name with your Magic Marker and write in yours. The budget boarders will love you for it, except for th eones that feel you spent too much on the Magic Marker.

LOL!! That is perfect!!

Okay I am new to the green ears, could someone explain them to me pretty please. :cutie:

Do they only apply to campers or can people staying in the cabins get thier green on too? We just changed our reservations to Ft. Wilderness and everyone is more excited now then when we were staying at the Contemporary. LOL!! I guess we are just a woodsie type of family. :hippie:

See ya'll in October!!

If you can post here, you can display the ears. Of course you have to take the fiends oath to be faithful to the Fort and all it stands for. Maybe someone more imaginative than I can quote an oath for all of us.

:rotfl:

This sounds like the perfect place for my family. :D My DD and I will get to work on some awesome green ears for our trip.

Oh and please send that oath on over once it is retreived from the Ark at DHS. I'll make sure we have a special ceremony on the next full moon in our Mickey Ears while dancing around in circles singing the Davy Crocket theme song. :thumbsup2
