Looking for somewhere fun and cheap to stay betwwen dc and outer banjs

We have a very small (200) budget (not counting gas) for a little trip. DD is in OBX with a friend and they have offered to let us stay a day or two when we pick her up. It's a long enough drive that we would like to get another day in, either on the way or at some point in OBX. Any thoughts?

We will bring a cooler with car snacks and food to contribute when we get to our friends.

You can usually find some pretty cheap places near Williamsburg, VA. Some of the properties are quite dated however.

Williamsburg around the halfway point from DC to OBX. And there is lots to do here! But hotels aren't the cheapest right now because it is tourist season.

I agree, Williamsburg would be a good idea. You could type your dates into expedia or the like and see what you get. You could also try Nags Head, lots of hotels there so you might be able to find one near(not overlooking) the ocean at a decent price.

You could probably get something cheap in Chesapeake VA which is between Williamsburg and OBX if your just looking for somewhere to hang your hat but you won't find whole lot to do.

Has anyone tried Governors Inn in Williamsburg? It seems like the Value Resort equivalent for that area - an official Williamsburg hotel, access to the recreation at the nicer hotels, but pretty cheap.
