Looking for some good off-site dining suggestions...

this year we have opted NOT to do the DDP - with so many changes and it being so much food, we think we will be better off just doing OOP dining. anyway, since we will have our own vehicle, i thought it might be nice to venture off-property a bit in the evenings. can you all suggest some great places to dine that are not too much of a hike? we will be dining with two small (well-behaved) children.

anything unique? even great chain-restraunts are okay for us - we just want to, obviously, stay away from any "shady" areas. we have done WDW many times, but never experienced anything else in orlando .

You should consider Celebration. It's an easy drive, very pleasant atmosphere and there are some great restaurants. At the high end are the restaurants at the two hotels, the Celebration Hotel and the new Mona Lisa hotel. Good moderate restaurants are Café D'Antonio's (great wood-fired pizzas!), Celebration Town Tavern (good seafood and burgers) and Columbia (Cuban/Spanish). The Market Street Café is like a 50's diner and there's an ice cream shop, Kilwins that's dynamite.

Bahama Breeze is great.

Also, if you head out of Disney property onto Osceola parkway, straight shot, down to the new loop shopping area there are a lot of great restaurants, chains/not chains many many choices. All have been good that we have tried so far.

Another good option, again, heading off disney property using Osceola parkway, Gaylord Palms resort will come up on your right. They have fantastic restaurants in there. The resort is beautiful, nice place to look around. Live alligators, they do alligator feedings. Check the website, depending on the time of year you go they have lots of events scheduled to take part in.

Kobe Japanese Steakhouse on Palm Parkway (right off of 535) is a great place to eat. And since they cook in front of you, your kids may really enjoy that.

You can try Steak N Shake -- i was hesitant the first time i heard of it, but its like a fast food diner and the food is good and they also have a drive thru and are open all night

thank you for your suggestions - i am so glad you posted this, b/c a friend actually recommended the market street cafe, but could not remember where it was. they appear to not have a website, as i was unsuccessful in finding them myself - now i know it is celebration!

we have a bahama breeze here near our hometown, and that is a fun atmosphere - we may have to do that one night.

i will have to look into kobe, as well.

LOVE steak-n-shake milkshakes!! never eaten there, but dh stopped once or twice when i was preggo with my 1st to bring me a shake and he made me one happy gal!!

Jungle Jim's is great for burgers. Lots and Lots of different options. They are in the Crossroads Shopping Center near DTD.

Fishbones is closer to Seaworld and they are great for seafood.

^ Another GREAT restaurant. I for some reason was wanting to keep you close to WDW, but you never said that was necessary, sorry! Cafe Tu Tu Tango is a great, fun place to eat.

We enjoyed Houlihans on 192. I liked their martini flight and dh loved their chicken wrap. After dinner we had a drink out on the patio bar and listened to a steel drummer. Our food was very good, the atmosphere casual and we didn't feel rushed or crowded.

Our favorite family restaurant in the WDW area is "Cracker Barrel". There are a couple on 192. One is just minutes from Animal Kingdom.

Here are some other suggestions that haven't been mentioned:

Miller's Orlando Ale House - Good Food, reasonable prices, close to WDW at 535 and Palm Parkway

Cici's Pizza - 2 locations one on Palm Parkway and and one on 535. Very inexpensive all you can eat pizza, salad, and pasta.

Golden Corral - Also on 535, has almost everything from soup and salad bar to chicken and steak. Dinner for under $10 per person.

Romano's Grill - Think of it as an upscale Olive Garden. Just above Palm Parkway on 535.

Logan's Roadhouse - Good Steaks. Out on 192 in Kissimmee.

Tony Roma's - Good Ribs. On I-drive below the convention center

Chic-Fil-A - If your kids like chicken nuggets then this is the place to go. They also have good waffle fries and carrot/raisin salad and fresh made lemonade. Out on 535 across the street from Golden Corral.

These are just a few. If you have a favorite chain restaurant it can be found within a 5 minute drive of WDW. Just start at the west end of 192 and go east toward Kissimmee.
