Heard about Kobe Steakhouse and wondering if anyone has been recently? It sounds like it's simliar to Teppan Edo at Epcot....that is, you sit around a table that has a large grill and the chef cooks your food right there, with a little show (or showmanship) while he cooks?

I'll take any information you have about this place, but the questions that come to mind are:

Is the show good? My kids have never seen this, I've only seen it years and years ago at a Benihana's I think it was called. I remember a lot of slicing and throwing the knives in the air, creating things out the food, and most of all the chef tossing the food in the air and it landing right on my plate in front of me, lol.

The prices at Kobe are about 1/2 the cost of Epcot...and even a few dollars lower for the early bird.....is the quality of food good? I know Epcot prices are simply "Disney" prices, but I don't want to save money and eat horrible.

Are there other places like this in town?????

Thank you.

We ate a the Kobe Japanese Steakhouse in the Crossroads area a little over a week ago. They have 3 options for dining. You can choose only sushi, traditional Japanese style, or Teppan Style (the type you mentioned). We chose Teppan Style, because our DS had never experienced that either. My DH & I used to eat this type of Japanese often, but took a very long hiatus (long story). We thought it was time to give it another try, & allow our DS to experience it.

The service was excellent. Our cook wasn't nearly as good as some I've seen. He did all his knife throwing, before he started cooking & was inconsistent on his tricks during the meal. He was very nice. Since our DS had nothing to compare him to, he thought he was great. My DH & I kept the fact that he wasn't as talented as some to ourselves. ;)

Now to the food......
Our DS & his girlfriend spent the day at Disney Quest. We picked them up & went straight to eat. We arrived around 5:50 pm, & were given the early bird menu. My DH & I ordered the Steak & Lobster special for 2, & our DS & his GF decided to do the same. It was $42 per couple. The amount of food they give you is ridiculous. We received:

soup & salad - Good (I only ate a few bites (or spoonfuls) of each anticipating an overfilling meal, & I was correct in doing so.

grilled veggies - Excellent (I could have made a meal of these & been happy.)

grilled mushrooms - Very Good

noodles - Good (typical)

lobster - Very Good

steak - Very Good (I'm not much of a beef eater, so I only tried a couple bites, before passing them to my hubby. Everyone else thought the steak & lobster were both outstanding.)

fried rice - Very Good (The next best thing served, right behind the veggies.)

We all shared the fried cheesecake, which we paid extra for. I enjoyed it more than the rest, but I've never seen a dessert I didn't think was fabulous. :p

To sum up our experience, compared to other Japanese Steakhouses, I've had soup & salad I liked more. It's a personal taste kind of thing. The steak & veggies were the best I've had, & the fried rice was better than avg. The lobster was great, but typical, as was the noodles. As a whole, I would rate it a little higher than other Japanese Steakhouses I've been to.

I went for a free dinner on my birthday (up to a $15 value). They also have other coupons and early bird discounts.

I love Benihana and did not enjoy Kobe as much as my visits to a local Michigan Benihana. I didn't care for the sauces. I think once you get used to a certain set of flavors at a certain place, others can be a disappointment.

I don't think we would return, but we would also not eat at the Epcot Japanese places because of the high prices.

Kobe is good but we much prefer the one on 192 by Celebration than the one at Crossroads. We usually have the filet steak for the extra fee and we have a great time watching other peoples reactions when they start shouting "fire" or other such things. Great entertainment and good food at reasonable prices.

Just ate there last night! It was great as usual. We also prefer the one on 192 near Celebration.

Wonderful, it sounds like it got pretty positive reviews!

Bearzabout....I totally understand what you mean about getting used to one flavor, been there done that, that's why we now try to not get into a rut about eating at the same place all the time, lol.

Frothy and Suzannews: Looking at their website it lists one in Kissiimee, with this as the directions:

I-4 Exit 64A: Across from Celebration, next to Arabian Nights, near the Radisson & Hyatt Hotels at mile marker 8.

Is that the one you're talking about???? Curious what makes it better than the other......probably the staff? Or is Kobe a franchise so it could be the food too? We want to explore Celebration so that could make this a pretty easy choice, but as I said, curious why it's better.

Thanks everyone...this one is going on the touring plan right now!

Closest to my house.

Kobe is excellent and so much better value than Teppan Edo at Epcot.

That Kobe by Celebration is actually in a strip mall, not literally next door to Arabian Nights. It can be easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for because it's set back. If you get off I-4 and make it to the Shoney's/Starbucks, you've gone a little too far.

Even tho' I live in Celebration, I like the one at Crossroads better. The one on 192 smells like natural gas and looks kinda dirtier than Crossroads (actually, my real favorite Kobe is near Universal but I'm usually too lazy to drive there).

Wonderful, it sounds like it got pretty positive reviews!

Put me down for a big fan of Kobe who perfers the Crossroads location to the US 192 location.
