Hi!

My kids and I are planning to move to Orlando Florida this summer. Can you please tell me which area are nice to live in and which area to watch out for. I also want a good school district for the kids (7 and 4). Either public school or Catholic school is fine. I want to be 10 miles within Universal/Disney.

If you know any apt complex, plz let me know also thanks in advance!!

No ideas from this Chicago bound DIS'er, Telly, but just saying hello. :wave2: Hope things are going well for you and the kids. You need to make it back to the midwest sometime after you move, you never made it to a meet, OR, we can have one at WDW. :teeth: :bounce: Good luck, my best wishes with the move.

Thanks Dan! Once I am settled in Orlando...Name the time and place and I'll make sure we'll meet and the rest of DIS whoever is going during that time!

Donna I PMed you back! Thanks for the info! I will surely do my homework. Maybe I might even end up where you are Donna! :)

If anyone else that lives in Orlando or neary, plz let me know and if you know any apt complexes, that would be wonderful! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just moved last week to the Hunter's Creek area. It's very nice and about 10mins from WDW taking the Osceola pkwy. It is great place to live with a family. There are several apt communities as well as homes. I love it here!!!

Good luck!

Thanks wdisneelvr! Are the schools walking distance to any of these apt complex?

I did some homework when I had planned to move and found that Hunter's Creek area just wonderful! If I'm not mistaken, the elementary school is IN the subdivision. That info alone was enough for me!

Good luck on your move, Telly. Hope your family is doing fine and God bless,

Robinrs

Thanks Robinrs! Sounds like Hunter's Creek is the place to be! Still doing my research. The kids and I are doing fine, thank you.

u can go to apartments.com and request a free copy of some apartments that they have over in orlando

Although I don't live there full time I would endorse Hunter's Creek too. Seems to be very central and we've driven around it plenty and it seems like a nice tidy neighbourhood. In fact the house next door to my villa was owned by someone on Hunter's Creek.

My friend moved to Florida and is now living in Celebration. She got a 3 bed without pool for about $350,000. She chose that as it has an excellent school and a lovely community. I think she made a good choice.

DD and I are also moving to the Orlando area in June. We are building a home in Windermere. It is about a 10 minute drive to WDW and less to Universal. Windermere is not very built up at this time. There are a lot of new home divisions being built, but it certainly isn't a crowded area. We like the area because it is an up and coming area. Due to the type of homes already in the area, I'm sure that the property values will only go up. There is a very nice area just down the road with very high dollar homes. Tiger Woods lives there. Needless to say, my new house won't be quite as nice as his.

There are currently no schools within walking distance from where we will live, however there are plans to build two new schools within the next couple of years. It won't really matter to us because DD will graduate from high school in two years.

If you have any questions about this area, I will try to answer them. I'm not real familiar with much beyond the Windermere area yet. Good luck!

Howdy, Neighbor! :wave2:

Telly,
There are currently 3 elementary schools in Hunter's Creek, with a 4th under construction right now. Many, many children ride their bikes to school, although I'm not quite comfortable with my own kids doing that just yet.
I can't imagine any of the 3 (or 4 ) schools being very far from any complex you might choose.

We are a little north of Orlando in Altamonte Springs. We love it here. It's far enough away from the theme parks but still close enough to go on the weekends. We have everything up here, a great mall with a new theatre and any resturant you can think of. DD's elementary school received an A in the Florida school scale. I will admit that there are times that I wish we lived closed Disney. Especially since I would like to work there someday and it would be nice to just hop over there for an evening show.

Wow I can't believe how close I am to my fellow DIS-ers, I had no idea that any of you were in Hunter's Creek!

Thanks for the welcome PandyPaws :)

We house-hunted in Davenport last Feb. We saw some nice houses there. Im still looking for a home in the Orlando area, so this post is very interesting to me also!!

We found Holy Family Church in Orlando, and would like to settle in that community when we retire. They have a vibrant parish and school and are very welcoming.

Here's their web site:

10 minutes from Disney and Universal? That would be like heaven for me! All the outlet shopping and cheap buffett eats would put me in hock and make me more chubby...but I would be in heaven! I'll get there one day too!

Thanks everyone for your advice...tips!! Hunter's Creek sounds like the place to be. How far is that from Disney or Universal? Where is it located at? N. E. S. W.?

I prefer to live where I don't have to pay the toll everytime I go down or up that freeway. Or is there a one time fee for the whole year and go thru the Express?

I am planning to go back to Orlando and start looking for apartments and apply to maybe 3 or 4, then by June I will know where I will be staying at.

I am not worried about finding a job there, I can transfer there cause the company I work for is nationwide and I know they have stores there in Orlando. What I am worried about is the sitting for the kids? How do I go about that? Latchkey? Child care center? Personal babysitter? Can I just have you guys sit for my kids?!?
:teeth: ::yes:: :teeth: I will pay...and tip too! :teeth:

Any tips on this one would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!
Telly
