Looking for nice hotel room near Disneyland

Dw and I have been to WDW in Florida more times then we have fingers and toes. We would love to try Disneyland now. We where looking at hotels in AAA book. And seen many that we like . My question is has any one stayed at Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites? It is right across from the main gate to Disneyland. If you have stayed here it`s pros ans cons about it. And what other hotels would be good to look into and why. We want a hotel not to far from the park.We just want a clean bed and shower for we spend more time in the parks.

if your looking for the 5 for 3 then I would go with get away today! and they have the fairfield inn by Marriott at one of the best prices I have seen so far. the carousel is right across the street from the front gate, as is the tropicana, the castle inn, and the desert inn and suits. in fact the desert inn and suites is also pretty much across the street from the park gates

Not sure of this year because we will be at WDW in last of SEpt to 1st week of Oct. 2 days in the park then 7 days on the Magic. Then a day in the park then back to Ohio. It might be 2010 we are try to make plans and see what people say about different hotels. And most likely in Oct of 2010

I have stayed there many times. It's good. Not fancy but clean bed, pool, free limited breakfast. Lots of variety on room sizes. If you get a good deal go for it.

I used to stay at the "Park Vue Inn" which is literally right across the street from the main entrance.

I stopped staying there after 2 incidents of bugs (roaches and ants) in my room which they never did anything about, AND they raised their prices at the same time! UGH! PLUS... they are a non-smoking hotel which just means that the people who smoke stand right outside their hotel room door and smoke so you have to walk through everyone's smoke to get to your room. The hotel management there explained to me that "all hotels in Anaheim are non-smoking" which of course is a complete lie. I never went back after those incidents.

I now favor the "Anaheim Plaza Inn and Suites" - it's nothing special, but the rooms are of a decent size, it's always been pleasant, the staff have always been helpful, AND if you go there during the right time of the year your room will be around $50 per night.

It's just one block up the street from the DLR main entrance on Harbor Boulevard.

Ok, so a 4 star hotel it is not, but I've never had any complaints and it's always been a terrific value. (by the way, they have a hot tub in the pool area... also a plus)

I've always booked it through hotels.com.

Just my opinion!

(I've also stayed at the Ramada, the Howard Johnsons, the Penny Sleeper, and the Days Inn, and I don't recommend any of those for various reasons.)

HoJo is a big favorite on these boards, for many reasons. If you look around a little, you'll find lots of posts about it in the last page or two. Its biggest attraction is the Entertainment book rate : http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14

Also it's one block up from the entrance, a 7 minute walk. Extremely comfortable, and great service. It's the only hotel on Harbor with inside corridors (as opposed to outside room entrances, motel-style). It has a wonderful pool and water play area for the kids.

We've stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites in 2005 & worked out great for our large family. We had a suite that was 2 rooms together: couch, 2 queen beds, fridge, microwave & 1/2 bath one side & 2 queen, table w/chairs & full bath on the other side.

We've stayed at the Tropicana Inn & enjoyed our stay there. They have a bigger pool than the Desert Inn & Suites & it's outside (Desert's is small & inside).

A motel down a little further is America's Best Value-Astoria Inn & Suites......DO NOT STAY HERE, NO MATTER THE PRICE!!!! It's one block off Harbor on Ball Street which makes it very convenient if planning on using the parking garage......but it is filthy, musty & nasty!!!!

We've also stayed at the Motel 6....it is further away from the park but you can use the bus shuttle or park yourself. It was very nice there & the best price on the Good Neighbor Motels thru Disney Travel. They've removed the carpeting & gone to hardwood floors, which makes it cleaner.

Thank you for all the help on the hotels rooms. DW and I alway stay at POP at WDW. Not that we are cheap but like I said in 1st post all we need is a clean bed and a shower.

I guess it's been a lot of years since I stayed there (maybe 10?) but my experience was so bad I never went back. It sounds like they've really changed though... maybe I'll have to give it a shot again?

I think Anaheim Plaza is closer though. That's really my favorite... $50 a night rooms at the right time of year plus the hot tub (I do like the hot tub... many other hotels around there do not have one).

My favorite is the Tropicana. The Hojo is nice, but a little bit of a walk. The Candy Cane is cute, but it's not as convenient as the hotels right across the walkway from the entrance plaza on the other side of Harbor.

For as little time as you'll spend in them, almost any of them will do. But be aware that many of them back up to the 5 freeway. Ask for a room as far from the freeway as you can get, or facing away from it. Sound proof windows can only do so much when an 18 wheeler roars by at three am.

It's been a few years since we have stayed there but we loved it. It was very nice and we are picky people. Our room at the time was newly and nicely decorated and we found the location to be good for us. The other hotel we really like is the Sheraton even though you have to take a shuttle to the park. We got a room in the round towers. I prefer the sheraton to the DLR properties myself.

Can't help on the Cortona, but I have friends who stay at the La Quinta every time they go, and they like it very much. I think it's a little cheaper than the hotels right across the street, but of course it's also a little further away - probably too far to be considered "walking distance" for most people.

We've stayed at the Candy Cane Inn four times and had a great experience every time. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The free breakfast is great and the kids love the pool. The rooms have always been clean. You can walk to the park entrance or take the free shuttle if you are tired of walking. There is also a convenience store next door that comes in handy. We will definitely be staying there again and I would recommend it without hesitation.
