Looking for members opinions on DVC...New Member

We are new DVC Members and are looking for other members Likes and dislikes regarding DVC. Any helpful tips are welcome also!

Likes:
1. One bdrm villas at moderate resort prices
2. Welcome Home!
3. Flexiblity of the points system
4. Great CMs at MS (well great CMs every where)
5. Our guide Byron - what a terrific gentleman
6. DVC created the need for the DIS!
7. Finding the Timeshare Store and Pat Spell - another terrific person to work with

Dislikes:
1. Waiting ten years from first tour in 1992 to join
2. Running short on points
3. Lack of a robust online account management and reservation system
4. No online DVC store
5. Not being able to reserve based on check-in date (check-out date creates the need for some folks to call day-by-day to reserve at peak times - what an inefficient process!)

I second MOST of yours Jim, and I will add:

1. The point value and size of OKW units.
2. the great security gate guards at OKW.
3. The themeing of all the DVC resorts!
4. Outside your door parking at OKW
5. Non-valet parking at SSR.
6. Proximaty to DTD of SSR.
7. Great theme pool at BCV.
8. Quality of all the units of DVC.
9. Distribution of points so you can plan by week or day.
10. Management that has kept maintenance fee increases low.
11. Variety of locations.
12. Great bus and other transportation service!
13. Being able to treat friends and family to trips with us.
14. Restaurant and Behind the scenes discounts.
15. Friendly staff.

I dislike the lack of on line reservations too. I also can't understand why we can't have on-line lists of available II trades and point tracking.

I would prefer that Non-smoking requests be GUARANTEED, and there be a stated policy of costs etc, if someone abuses a unit in any way. This would include smoking in a non-smoking unit or causing excessive damage to a unit. I would rather see the guilty individual have to pay rather than the owners as a whole.

One thing about reserving based on check-in date, your dates could be gone by the time your 11 month check-in date arrives. For example, you want to arrive December 5. A large family reunion books several rooms for Dec 1 to 10. You call on January 5 (11 months) and no rooms are available. Going by check-out date puts everyone on an even playing field.

Dislikes: Non-smoking should be a guarentee....I'll throw in Non-HC too, just for others. Some of the coolest resorts don't have DVC units (Poly, AKL, GF). I'd love to have a non-AP park ticket discount (we were in the minority, but we LIKED the UPH discount).

Likes: Nice accomodations, kitchens and laundrys. Seperate room for the kids. Forces us into a biannual "big" vacation.

You have stumbled across the absolutely right place to be.

Too many likes to mention: knowing there will always be a paid for room to come back to again and again, enjoying all the different DVC properties...

We own at SSR....

SSR is a great resort if you love Downtown Disney. The view from SSR to DTD and DTD to SSR at sunset is breathtaking. Loved the fireworks view every night at midnight at Pleasure Island. The atmosphere is so tranquil and the landscaping is gorgeous.

Don't forget that we are part of Magical Express (which in theory should be great).

I love everything about DVC. It was the best investment I made, other than marrying my fabulous husband!
