My son is so afraid of character. He'll scream all through dinner, but we have the dining pkg so I want to eat good. I have heard that Ohana is good and kid friendly so I will definately book there, but what else?????

Why dont you try....

Teppanyaki
Japan - World Showcase - Epcot

My nephews love the chefs that cook in front of you. The chefs always put on a show.

50's prime time cafe at mgm. Good home style cooking in a fun atmosphere

Ditto for 50's Prime Time Cafe. Little kids seem to really enjoy that place. I've seen lots of smiling faces there!

Castle for dinner - no characters then.
Beaches N Cream at Beach Club
Rainforest Cafe - AK
Kona Cafe - Poly
Concourse Steakhouse - CR
Wispering Canyon Cafe - WL
Spoodles - BW
Hollywood & Vine - MGM
50's prime time cafe - MGM
Mitsukoshi - Japan Epcot
Coral Reef - Epcot
Rose & Crown - England, more outside then inside)

actually any of the sit down restaurants at the hotels besides signature are kid friendly. Same with the parks, you are in Disney!!

How old's your son??? If he's a little older (like in the 5-10 range) I'd suggest 50s Prime Time Cafe and the Sci-Fi Dine In at MGM. They're awesome restaurants with no characters and they're very fun for both kids and adults. Tables at the SciFi are in cars so if your son likes cars and trucks as most little boys do he might get a big kick out of it. The wait staff at 50s Prime Time are so much fun and it is very kid friendly. The Hoop-de-Doo Revue is also really really funny if you want to spend 2 meals for a dinner show. That's the one to go to since it has no characters. At Epcot, I agree with the previous poster that Teppanyaki is the way to go.

I know how he feels... when i was little i was deathly afraid of the characters too. We have one pic of me at Epcot petrified of Minnie, haha. it was priceless. i grew out of it though and by my next trip i was getting my autograph book signed and kissing Dopey!

Hope this helped!

I understand how your son feels, I do the same thing. :earboy2: I like a peaceful meal. Although, we TRULY enjoy Tony over at MK. :goodvibes

Biergarten at Germany in Epcot is really fun for kids- the oomp-pah band is great, and there is a big area in front of the stage where most of the kids go to dance along- they do some sing-along and chant-alongs, and sometimes, everyone gets to do the Chicken Dance!

Do they have the grill right there- like a hibachi?
I know every kid is different, but my DBF's neice who was 3 at the time royally freaked out at the flames when there was a family party at one of those places. She had to go home early she was so terrified. Up until that point she was fine, just when that huge flame came out.

I would second Ohana, and how about the Whispering ...? at WL? When we stayed there last Dec, sounded like everyone was having a great time!

I don't know how this fits on the dining plan, but the Hoop Dee Doo is a lot of fun.

O'hannas gets my vote. Kids activities, but no characters. One time we were there during a rainstorm. The luau was cancelled so the dancers came and danced for us!

:cool1:

Most of the resort restaurants are very kid friendly - but they vary in terms of activities for kids.

Poly - 'Ohana is all you can eat skewers - for kids activities they have coconut races and hula hoop contests - allows the adults to actually eat & kids have fun. Since the activity occurs every hour - it can be hit or miss based on your timing
Kona Cafe has delicious food and is casual but has no kids activities. (does have a kids menu)

AKL - Boma - is all you can eat buffet - has a special kids buffet area - when we were here, there wasn't any kids activities so my boys were done way before we were ready to leave. (and the adults didn't want to leave!)

WL - Whispering Canyon Cafe - has regular menu/kids menu & all you can eat BBQ skillet; The draw of WCC is the interactions with your servers - if you are outgoing and enjoy some fun, you server may make you hats out of your napkins, bring you the largest tub of water you've ever seen, pepper your entire table with straws and just ask for some ketchup! You may be told to ride a wooden horse around the lobby, too. If your son is shy, you should let the server know in advance and you can just watch the "show."

50s Primetime at MGM is similar to WCC in the sense that your server controls how "fun" the interaction is. There you are served by "Aunts", "Uncles" and "Cousins" & "Mom" is the cook. Kids love it when the adults in your group are sent into the corner or have their vegetables brought out again as dessert.

My kids like the Teppanyaki restaurant in Epcot & the chef interactions - but to dh & I it is no better than our local Bisuteki & it cost more so we don't tend to go there.

Boma and 'Ohana are my DD5's favorite non-character restaurants. The food is great at both of them.

We have great luck in the Sci Fi in MGM, The Plaza in MK, San Angel Inn in Epcot, Kona CAfe in the POly, Concourse Steakhouse in CR, and Olivia's in OKW.

No one has mentioned Cape May yet. The tablecloths are giant sheets of paper and each table has a tub of crayons. You can write and color all over the tablecloth.

And since it is a buffet a kid can eat a bite of this, a bite of that, waste one of those, etc.

The food is good for the adults too. Cape May is on our "must do" list now.
