I'm looking for a great Digital Camera for around $400.00. We need something with an amazing zoom capability. My recent digital camera stinks as far as zooming in close goes. If you know of any great DVD camcorder's for around $500.00 that would be appreciated also. Thanks. :sunny:

Nothing better in the $400-$500 price range than the Canon Powershot S2 IS. It has a 12x Optical Zoom. It's an excellent camera in all respects, with many of the features and qualities found in the SLRs.

I bought mine last month for $425. You should be able to find it on the internet pretty easily for a similar price.

I have a pentax Optio 750 it has 40x zoom that also takes great video, and a ton of built in features. Online it is around 400, in a store 600. It can also be fully manual for those that enjpoy that.

I have a Canon S1 IS the model before the S2 Is.. it is 10 x zoom.. it sells for around $200 as it was replaced by the S2 IS

I'm going to go with the Canon S2 IS as well. I have the S1 IS and I'm really happy with it, but if you want 5mp and 12x zoom go for the S2.

I recently bought the Kodak DX3900 and I love it! (And I am a SLR snob-Canon Rebel) I've had it about a month or so and taken about 400 pix. The camera is 5 MP, 10 x optical and 3 x digital (total 30x zoom). I paid $366 +tax and Sam's Club including the dock.

I was thinking about getting a digital SLR in a few years or so but with the quality of my new cam I don't think I will. I took pix of DD in sprinklers and the drops of water froze in the pix. I was pleasantly surprised. :sunny:

Just my thoughts, 44 days and counting! :jumping1:

Remember, if you're looking for a camera with a great optical zoom unless you use a tripod regularly you need to find one with an internal stabilizer. If you don't have it most likely your pics will be blurry.

I have a Kodak dx6490. 4 megs 10x optical.
love it except that i don't use tripod so the higher zoom capability pretty much nil since everything i take will be blurry... :)

I have a Canon Powershot S1 IS, too. I love it!

Whatever camera you narrow it down to, be sure to check Fatwallet for deals. There was a thread about people getting the Canon S1 IS for $175 at Staples. They are a great resource for deals!!!

We got the new sony cybershot M1. It's great. Takes great pics and can do video too!
