How about using your family name, that's what people are suppose to do.What are some fun, funny, unusual things to have them call out when they announce your family upon boarding?
There was a thread recently about proposals and many reported DCL will no longer do anything except, "the ...... Family." I don't know this first hand but that's what most were saying. What are some fun, funny, unusual things to have them call out when they announce your family upon boarding?
Once we've passed the photo location, we've never had to wait to board/be announced. It always seems to just keep moving. They usually have at least 2 CMs doing the announcements, so one is getting the family name while the other is announcing, keeps things moving.Just have them announce The Griswold Family. Or The Simpson Family. Or The Addams Family. As noted, they won't say anything more complicated.
To be honest, I'm starting to tire of the family announcement thing. It was nice to get on our Princess cruise and just go straight onboard without having to wait for everybody in front of us to make a grand entrance.

I've never been handed the slip to be announced. We sail concierge and whoever escorts us to the ship has handled the slip.
That's how it's always worked with us, also. Not sure what "slip" they're talking about. We've never had a slip to be announced. When we walk up, the CM just asks our name and announces it. I am another who finds it awkward and would be happy to skip it, but my DD loves it.

No slip either, and I agree... it is a bit awkward. I am thinking we will just avoid this going forward. The thrill is gone.![]()
I was thinking that -- they must let you just say "no thanks" and move on. But because next year will be our first Disney cruise in three years, we may be dorky and just have them do it since we don't know when we'll be able to afford another one.
That was my very most favorite surprise on our first cruise.![]()
I think you should too.We have sailed more frequently in 2016 than typical and I think we are just sort of jaded and bored right now. (and I hesitate to say that because it might come across as being snarky and that I don't love the tradition) It WAS thrilling the first few times and if there was time between cruises, I think it would still be exciting for us. I actually love to watch all the folks getting announced and seeing the expressions. Especially the kids who are having folks clap for them...it makes me smile.
They totally do. Couple of times (when I wasn't in the mood) we've just said, "no, thanks" and walked on in.I was thinking that -- they must let you just say "no thanks" and move on.
