Hi, were looking to book a holiday in August 08 but all the flights are so expensive! Does anyone know what the cheapest airline would be?(direct flights only) Thanks x

Hi
Not enough info really, where from? how long for? etc
If its a 2 week holiday then look at all the tour ops, maybe in New year sales?
Also Travel City Direct.
Flight only FlyGlobespan from Glasgow were very cheap, not so much this year and they have had a lot of bad press recently.
Do you have Virgin frequent flying, miles? This is how I have booked ours for next August 1st-25th Got free flight (20,000 miles+tax) outbound then booked a return flight with BMI for £235. Total price £336 each.
BMI have a sale on until the 18th Nov from Man via Chicago, most dates in August were available for £535 return, not checked if they still have any.
Good luck, not easy in August.

We're going in Aug 08 and had some major problems with finding cheap flights considering this is the first time we've flown in peak season. cheapest we got was £550 direct from Glasgow with globespan. However only since booking I'm hearing these comments about the recent reviews being bad. What's been said about them lately wayneg?

They were on Watchdog last week, http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_an...ts/holidays_and_travel/holiday_20071107.shtml

Majority of their flights are fine but when they have a problem they are useless.

search here for lots more posts about them.

We've been looking for cheaper flights for next August for a few weeks now and have bitten the bullet and given up!!

We've got loads of Flying Club miles with Virgin, but could not get these for the dates we needed, especially since we're travelling with friends.

We've settled on the best of a bad bunch - VA Heathrow to Miami for £639 each, ouch. We are over there for 20 days, our friends for 3 weeks, two different places (Orlando and the beach, haven't quite decided exactly where down the beach yet). We've got the villa reserved for the whole three weeks (we've used it before) and will decided between the two families how long and when exactly. Because there are so many of us, we wanted peace of mind of having the flights booked. Don't have a problem with Miami since we've flown into and out of there before.

I am still in shock at the prices being charged. Having just come back from an 8 nighter at half-term last month, we used American Airlines for indirect flights into Chicago then down to Tampa for £350 each. Whilst I expected August to be more expensive, the prices are a shocker. Especially since I am an Admin Officer in a school and August is the only time we can get three weeks.

Wayne has been my flight guru, both this trip and last. Thanks Wayne:thumbsup2

Good luck finding flights. I think the general consensus seems to be if you can wait a while, the prices may be down.

Especially since I am an Admin Officer in a school and August is the only time we can get three weeks.

And the authorities wonder why parents take kids out of school.
We are lucky with lots of experience know how to do Florida on a budget even in August, I have known families spend on a 3 week August Holiday what we spend on 3 trips.
Problem is there is no solution to it, Airlines have to make as much as poss thru the peak times to afford discounts when noboby wants to travel. Only way it could change is if schools had different holidays including Jan, June, Sept and Nov so there are always the silmilar number of pupils on holiday year round.
You will just have to book another trip sometime to use your miles:goodvibes

:yay: Funny you should say that, Wayne:) Katie and I are off on a mum and daughter trip Feb 2009 to New York for her 16th birthday - something I've always promised her. So, to be honest, when we couldn't get the August VFM flights, I knew we will (hopefuly) be using them another time. And since our flights to Miami are VA, there'll be even more to play with:thumbsup2

Don't get me started on the subject of peak holiday prices. I do try and reason with my parents when they come into school and moan about how they can't afford to take their children in holiday times, that's why they need me to sort out a holiday authorisation . . . I do point out about us lowly paid education staff who HAVE to pay those prices.

Hey ho . . . .

:rolleyes1

I have just booked for August with Air Canada from Heathrow to Orlando, change at Vancouver on way out and again on way back, for August 2008 the whole trip in the school holidays for £347.80 each.:cool1:

Exactly what my friends have done, and we are considering it too. £347.80 each for adults and under £300 for children. You can't beat that for August, and Air Canada have decent planes and good IFE, too.

We're not going in August, but I have found flights today with KLM.

For 3 adults it is coming in at £1,554 from Aberdeen to Miami with only the one stop in Paris. Even flying Aberdeen to Orlando (with 2 stops) the price is £1,684.

BA and Virgin aren't doing anything under £2,000.
