Looking for advice : )

So I used to be very active before I go pregnant. I did the full marathon 2008, the Goofy 2009 but DNF due to getting swept at mile 23 of the full, and entered the Goofy 2010 but only did the half because of the weather (sleet and snow was enough for me  ). In between those I did local 5K's, 10K's, and a few other half marathons. Right now, my pace is terrible (like 19 minutes per mile if I really push it). Normally my pace is 15-16 minutes per mile. I am due in May 1st of this year. I am thinking of going for disney marathon weekend next year, but unsure of what to register for. I *know* I can do the half.....but where is the fun in that? I kind of want to register for the marathon so I will have to get myself back into shape after the baby. On the other hand, I don't want to enter and not finish. I kind of went through a depression when I didn't finish the Goofy 2009(I was just so close to finishing) so I don't want that to happen again.:sad2: Anyways, just looking for some ideas, thoughts, or suggestions.
Thanks!

Gee, I don't know how to advise you on this one. There are a couple of new Moms who will be enjoying race weekend after birthing. I'm not sure if they are near computers at this point since the weekend is so close.

I guess the things to consider is the amount of time you will have to train. It is a big commitment for the training of the full as you know. Will you have someone to help you watch the little one so you can do this training?

I think it is a great idea and hope you can get things sorted in order to make your decision.

I am kind of in the same position as you right now. I am pregnant and due on April 24th. I am trying to decide what to register for next year. I know I want to do something just not sure what to register for! I have done the Goofy twice and found training difficult without a baby, so I am wondering how it will be with a newborn baby.

Lily brings up a great point about having time and if you will have somebody to watch the baby when training. This is what I am worried about, I know I will have my husband on the weekends, but the weekday runs could get hard because of our work hours. It really is a hard decision, and I don't know how quickly I will be able to get back at once the baby is born.

I think I have decided to wait it out a little bit and keep an eye on the registration capacity. If I see that one of the races is getting close to reaching capacity I will have to make a decision, but I am going to try to hold off for as long as possible to make a final decision, but I do know this...I will be there doing some race in 2012!!

good Luck with whatever decision you make and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

Hey, Congratulations!

I cannot help you with this problem, but I just wanted to drop in and let you know that Sarah-Rose might have the answers you are looking for. She is, however, flying down to WDW with her lil' man right now for marathon weekend. So, like Lily said, just hang around for a little while (until marathon weekend is over), and I am sure you will find the answers you desire :thumbsup2

Thanks for the advice! My mother-in-law has volunteered to watch the baby "anytime". I already asked her a few weeks ago if I enter a race next winter if she would be willing to watch the baby during my long runs on Saturdays and she said of course and that she would watch him any other time we need her(I am sure it is due to our baby being the first grandchild so they are very excited :woohoo: ). I don't work (and my MIL doesn't work) so time to train should not be an issue. But I will bump the thread a few times to see if I can get a response from the appropriate peoples in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks so much!

Both races didn't sell out until, I think, November. Unless Disney does something SPECTACULAR to increase registration, you've got plenty of time to consider.

Congratulations,
Ronda

The half is no small accomplishment, so I would not discount it as a viable option, but the full would be doable, especially since you've completed one before. The Goofy seems like it would place unnecessary stress on you because you'd be so determined to not repeat the history of your last Goofy attempt, you may end up over training and may not enjoy the journey as much due to being so stressed about completing it. Of course, only you can make this decision. I can tell you that each pregnancy is different as well too...when I had my son, I bounced back into pre-pregnancy shape 8 weeks after delivery, but with my daughter 5 years later, I never lost the last 20 lbs of pregnancy weight...it wasn't due to lack of trying. Pregnancy affects everyone differently, and you're the only one that knows your body and what you can handle. Just my 2 cents...

I would hold out registering for anything until after you have the baby. You never know how your body is going to react etc. I had fabulous pregnancies with no problems but when my kids were newborns, they didn't sleep and so I was so sleep deprived, I couldn't even think about training for anything. The most I could do was strap them into a baby carrier and walk. I wasn't able to get back into training until my younger son was 2.

You may be fine and will be able to train with no problems but I wouldn't put the pressure on yourself. Having a baby is hard enough. (Plus, if you are planning on breastfeeding, doing lots of intense exercise can decrease milk supply...just as an FYI).

Enjoy your pregnancy and allow yourself time to enjoy your newborn...the races will still be there if you decide to register later (the races didn't fill up until right before this year)
