Looking for advice: stuck with "reservations points" that expire in Feb. 2021

Hi all - first time poster here. I'm a DVC owner who lives in California.

Late last year, I converted 165 vacation points to use on a Disney Cruise for September 2020, which was subsequently cancelled by Disney. I then used those points to book a regular / non-DVC room at Grand Californian in September (cancelled by Disney), then October (cancelled by Disney) and December (cancelled by Disney as of today).

These points expire at the end of February 2021. I called DVC today, and they indicated there is no plan to extend the expiration of these points beyond the current use year, and since I converted them from "vacation points" to "reservation points", I can only use them for the Disney Collection and the Cruise Line.

I feel a bit stuck here since really the only property I can use these points before they expire is WDW, and I'm not comfortable traveling across the country during the pandemic with two young children.

Is anybody else in this predicament, or does anyone have any advice or other options for this point-class that wouldn't require me to travel out of state or the country?

Thanks so much!
-Mike

Mike time is ticking and my advice would be to rent them before they expire. If your not comfortable flying then rent...rent...rent them now!

Ahh, wow, I totally forgot about that...great info Sandisw! I'll look into that. The "small print" says Concierge Collection can't be booked within 4 months of the end of the Use Year window, so that could be a blocker, but I'm wondering if that's potentially one rule they'd be open to bend given how much plans have been disrupted to this point...I'll call tomorrow! Thanks!

I know you can rent out Vacation Points, but what about these Reservation Points? They don't seem very useful on the open market, but I'm totally open to explore opportunities if everything else falls through!

Are you sure your reservation points expire when your DVC points would have? We had an August cruise booked with points that was cancelled. We were given until March 2022 to use them for another cruise. I know you booked the other subsequent reservations but since they were also cancelled, your points may be able to be extended later. None of the 2021 cruises thrilled us but we booked the 2022 WBPC first day. Might be worth a call to DVC and ask a supervisor to look at the whole string of reservations.

I agree, you should call MS and have your situation looked at again. Sometimes just speaking to a different cast member will get you different results, especially with all the changes and uncertainty that has been going on this year.

Since your points are already in reservation status, that rule of 4 does not apply!

It only applies when someone wants to book and travel in the last 4 months from the start. That doesn’t give DVC time to rent them to pay for the trade.

Once points have been converted, then you are free to book!

Awesome, thank you again. I called today and put in a request for two nights at the Hotel Del Coronado, and I'll just wait to see if the property has availability. That was a lot less painful than I thought it was going to be. Really appreciate the help everyone!

The Rule of Four shouldn't work against you since they are already Reservation Points. They have that rule to give them time to sell DVC lodging to pay for your trip. They should have already done that.

We stayed at the Del a couple of years ago (DVC use) and it was magnificent. She is a grand old lady.
