we are renting a car from Alamo during our trip to Orlando. There are 4 people in the car and we will have 2 large suitcases, 2 smaller suit cases and 1 carry on bag. I think a mid-size car similar to a Toyota Corolla is fine as we can put suitcases in back seat between the kids if needed. My hubby thinks we should get a standard size car (can't recall the style). We will be doing a fair bit of driving daily so I want a smaller car for better gas mileage and the only time we will have the suitcases is to and from the airport. Can anyone make their suggestions as to the most adequate size of car for us. I don't ever rent cars. Kids are 13 and 19 but neither are large. Thanks.

I would go with your husband's suggestion. If you rent a Standard at MCO, you go to the full size row to select as there is no Standard row at MCO. The difference in gas mileage is really not all that much.

Right now I have an economy for $109.56, a mid-size for $118.49 and the standard(which would turn into a full-size) at $144.69 all for 10 days. Do you think it is worth the $35 difference between the smallest and the largest? I am watching the rates and them seem to keep dropping as we get closer to leaving. Thanks for your input.

I think you will be perfectly fine with the mid-size.

The last time I was there I booked a midsize and in that aisle they mainly had HHR's. There was also a Nissan Cube and a Corolla.

Save the extra money for something else.

BTW...excellent rental rates!!!!!

I am using Costco.com ID corporate code and their $30 off base rate. Seems to keep giving me a better deal than other codes I have tried. I started out at over $500 for a compact when I first started looking months and months ago! I didn't really believe the rates would ever come down to this even though I was given every assurance by experienced renters!! Will share your feedback with my hubby tonight.

If you have not done so yet, join Alamo's insider program. You can still use the codes you have used, but, you may find you get a better rate via the Insider's link.
Personally, I would go for the standard car. The economy cars are way small and the midsize are not a lot bigger.
What are your dates and approx. times?
