"I wike Sage!" --DS3
The boys are doing well. They didn't eat their evening food--we'll try again later. I didn't want to leave it down, as Frazzle was very interested (he got his own, of course, but he doesn't get to be piggy!). The boys are exploring the house. I don't know if they've been upstairs yet. Max is definitely shy, but interested, and has the most beautiful coat. Sage is more friendly, for now.
RainbowBrite--DH mentioned that it seemed very hard for the two of you to give the boys up. I hope that it gets easier with time. Our pets are family members, too. I'm not anticipating any vet issues, I just want to get them in there as soon as possible.
I will try to post pictures--I know DD14 took one of Sage, as she told everyone on Facebook and had to post a photo, but I don't think she got one of Max yet. Hopefully in the next day or two.
Small update...
Max and Sage arrived safely in Keene half an hour ago.
I will update again in a few days. They still have to acclimate, they'll be going to the vet tomorrow, etc., so I really want to get to know them better, but they are so sweet. And I have to say a huge "THANK YOU" to RainbowBrite from all of us--we are all just so thrilled to have the boys in our home! Well, maybe Frazzle, not so much, but he'll come around. Thanks again!
I'm so relieved. I had almost started to avoid this thread because I was concerned about where it was going. I had wanted to stay what another poster said about the college roommates. After college was over, who was going to be the owner? And the people who were sort of interested but didn't return calls didn't show any commitment to me.
I kept coming back though because I wanted to be available if the need arose to help with the neutering. I'm really happy that things have worked out so well.
After reading the updates, I think the cats are very fortunate. No matter what happens in the future, they will have a great home from here on out.
OP and BnB, thanks for making the effort to keep these boys from becoming another statistic!![]()
The one college student, Loretta, was going to be the owner of the boys. SHe had to get her roommates' approval because they were all living together in the home, but they would have been hers and moved with her after college. I'm extremely relieved that she did not end up taking them though.
Believe me, I was concerned too. I didn't know what to do anymore. I felt like I had no options left. I don't understand why my friend came to visit them, seemed to really want them and then avoided me when I asked her when she was coming to get them.
But it all worked out for the best in the end. Thank you again to everyone who cared so much about Max & Sage.
Let me clarify what I meant. As the owner of many abandoned animals (4 dogs and a dozen cats), I truly understood your situation. You HAD do to something and were being forced into a situation you didn't want to be in. I'm fortunate and have a fairly large home plus over 50 acres. You had a small apt. I think you did exceptionally well under the circumstances.
Thanks for working so hard!![]()
Another quickie update--
Sage and Max spent the morning at the vet. They were good as gold for her--not so much at home, but that's okay. They've been given a clean bill of health, and have had their first round of vaccines. They go back in 3 weeks for booster shots as well as neutering and microchipping. The vet said that max was absolutely gorgeous, while Sage is a "pistol". I can't argue with that!
They were racing around the house all last night, which was hysterical. And they broke into a new bag of Frazzle's cat food, depsite their own food lying in an open bag RIGHT THERE! Sigh! I've taken to calling them "Naughtyus Maximus" (from Monty Python) and "Purple Sagebrush". I'm not sure why, but kitties in our hosue always need a bunch of nicknames. Max likes to hang out on our entertainment center, and both like to watch the squirrels through our sliding glass door--it's like ESPN on a widescreen for kitties, I guess.
That's so wonderful that you have taken in so many abandoned animals. I wish I had a big house because I'd honestly love to have about 10 cats. Thank you so much for the kind words. I was always afraid I'd come here and find myself under attack - I felt awful that I couldn't afford to get them to a vet, but in September I had to go to the ER and got stuck with a $1,000 bill and no health insurance.![]()
It was always so nice to come here and find so many people willing to help.
You know, this is one of the few threads that I have followed from the beginning. I thank God that it has ended with a happy home with people that will love them and will keep them for their lifetime, there're truely some great loving people out there.
Rainbowbrite thank you for not just giving them to any old body out there and BuzznBelle thank you for taking the cats and loving them, I know that love will grow over time.
Thank goodness for a thread that finally ends well and no one got hurt in the process.![]()
They're doing great! I've taken a few pictures of them, but have had no luck (so far) posting them, even with the help of DD14. Maybe this weekend.
They spent the first couple of days mostly in the basement--it's unfinished, but nice enough, with a playroom on one side and DH's workshop on the other. Plenty of places for kitties to hide i65n766666666 (sorry, Max walked on the keyboard).
Sage likes to sleep in the blue tent in the family room. Max sleeps, somewhere, but shows up whenever DD14 does. We think he has a crush on her. Interestingly, they've been hardly touching the teddy bear--it's on the floor of the family room, so they have access. They do like the green blankets, though. Both also seem to like DD14's room--noticing a theme here? We think she's giving of female hormones or something. And she loves them, so it's no problem, it's just funny how they follow her.
By the way, Maxaroni and Cheese weighs 9.5 pounds, and Sage weighs 9 pounds.
Frazzle seems to be adjusting--he doesn't play with them, but he doesn't seem as annoyed with them, either. They don't sing very much, but they do get wild at night. Oh, and they both love our little laser mouse thing, in addition to the toys you sent along.
Beyond that, they have the usual complaints--we don't feed them the good stuff (you know, like chicken), we don't give them enough attention, etc. They're really fitting in nicely and are adored by all.
I hope you guys are feeling better about letting them go. We're really having a great time with them here.
