Looking for a beach stay - Vero Beach or Sarasota?

I'll throw my vote out for Vero Beach - that Disney resort is paradise!

We’ve been during red tide and it’s awful but it doesn’t seem to affect everyone the same. Some people were out on the beach and swimming totally care free. I couldn’t step outside without having a coughing fit.

If it’s bad enough the beach will be littered with dead fish and the town will stink like garbage. The water looks dull and dead. I’m generally not effected by things but it caused me to cough as well.

I was in Sarasota during Red Tide in February and it really smelled like dead fish anywhere near the beach. On the same trip we visited Fort Myers and it was much better. Just keep an eye on it. That said I love Clearwater Beach, the white sand cannot be beat and it is closest.
