I can't believe our oldest DD is soon to be celebrating her Big 40!!! :wizard:

I'm looking for advise from Dis'ners who are in the know about Lancaster, Pa. We are planning a girls getaway weekend for DD to help her welcome in the big 40 BD! Have already gotten permission from her DH  and the men in our group to be sure nothing important is planned for that time frame and also their much needed assistance with child care. ;)

After some web search we are considering ' Eden Resort Inn' or 'Willow Valley Resort'. Wondering if anyone has stayed at either one and what they thought?? To me, nothing is worse than anticipating a nice place to stay, then arriving only to be disappointed?!?!?! Last fall DH and I stayed at the 'Fulton Steamboat Inn' and did the Strasburg dinner train for his 70th BD, which was great, but we are looking for something more classy w/possibly a spa. :flower3:

We've made ressies at one of their local dinner theatres for 'The Full Monty' musical, which hopefully will be great for some laughs!! :goodvibes

TYIA for your advise! :goodvibes

We stayed at Willow Valley several years ago and it was beautiful! Friends stayed there last summer and said it was still beautiful so I'd definitely recommend it to you.

Also, while in Lancaster make sure to visit Miller's Smorgasbord. It's terrific!

I live within 30 minutes of Lancaster. I don't know anyone who has stayed at either hotel but I am wondering if location is important to you. Willow Valley Resort is located south of Lancaster. If you stay at Willow Valley it will take you close to 30 minutes(depending on traffic) to get to Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. The Eden Resort's location would be much closer for you. I have been to many shows at Dutch Apple and have never been disappointed with their shows. Their food is just okay for me.

Me and a bunch of co-workers had a girls getaway/shopping trip there back in October, we stayed at Country Inn and Suites which is across the street from Dutch Wonderland. We had two suites booked which slept 6 each. The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable.

My favorite meal was at the Shady Maple, best buffet food I've had in a long time!

Well since you mentioned spa I'll bring up the Hotel Hershey. You would be about 30 minutes- 40 maybe from The theatre if you stay there. But it has a juicy spa I hear. And hello OUTLET SHOPPING! Have a great time and enjoy your weekend.

You will not be disappointed with the Willow Valley Resort. We like the Stoltzfus Farms for the best Amish meal. We are Lancaster County residents and have tried them all (when we get complany). Most like Shady Maple but the food is not the most Amish. They store in the basement is amazing. Get out of the tourist area and head south to interact with the Amish is a more laid back environment.

Netherlands Inn in Strasburg has a great spa I hear. When in town, be sure to check out the Fulton Theater in downtown Lancaster for great plays. Oldest theater in the country. Beautiful (and much nicer than the Dutch Apple Theater where you'll be seeing Full Monty). www.atthefulton.org

I made reservations for one night at Eden Resort for this coming April. It has a good AAA rating and good reviews on various travel websites.

I needed a room that slept six and got a great price through the Best Western website.

DH and I have stayed at Willow Valley several times and love it! Our former Pastor and his wife (now retired) know the owners and remember when it was just a small hotel before it expanded to what it is now. We especially love the rooms that are by the small pool (not the one with the kiddie pool). The restaurant is really nice as well as the rooms.

We stayed at Fulton Steam Boat Inn in Nov/Dec of 2005 and I had a hard time sleeping at night. The mattress was just too hard and uncomfortable for me (but we loved the theming). We stayed there for about 2-3 nights then switched to Willow Valley (we met up with our church's confirmation group there). What a difference in mattresses! I practically fell asleep withing 5 minutes easily. The bed was soooo comfortable as were the fluffy pillows :cloud9:

Our son, who was 3 at the time, absolutely loved the kiddie pool and the big pool. We had a hard time getting him out to go back to the room

There is so much to do and see in Lancaster! We took our son to the Milenium (sp?) Sight and Sound theater to see The Miracle of Christmas, went to the Rockvale mall and Tanger Outlet, went to see the Christmas Village (I think that's the name of it - where every room was decorated in elaborate Christmas scenes) and we surprised our son with A Day out with Thomas the Tank Engine at Strasburg RR. He  it!

If you are interested in a spa. My friend just had a day at Leola village. It is a spa and an inn. She said they were wonderful and the food was good.

:thumbsup2 Thx so much everyone, I really appreciate all your advise and opinions. We're keeping DD full of anticipation, as she doesn't know what or where!?!? Should be lots of fun :goodvibes !! Her DH has more BD surprises in store for the actual day!

I have copied it and will run it by the girls! :goodvibes
