In trying to decide how many points to purchase, I have looked at one week in the fall and one long weekend in the summer. I have seen several people advise not to go for a long weekend. So, that has me wondering how many of you actually do go for a long weekend? With work schedules and taking vacation in the fall as well, a long weekend would work out well as far as schedules, but maybe not as well point wise. But I guess it takes money or points to go...:rotfl:

I do it all the time! I obviously would prefer sunday - thursday nights to save on points, but it just can't always be done. We take 4 night weekend trips (leave thursday late, return early monday) so that my DH can kind of "sneak" away from work. My next trip in May is one of these long weekenders. I still feel like it is a good use of points, albeit not the best. Still better than paying cash, IMHO.

We use the points on Fri and Sat stays too. We try to conserve points, when we can. But sometimes its not worth all the extra wrok to save 15 or 30 points on a weekend. And we don't have time to rent our extra points to pay the cash difference on weekend stays (like we even have extra points! LOL).

If we got 'em, we use 'em!

Count me in as another who does long weekends. We usually arrive Thurs. night or Friday morning and leave Monday. We do 2-4 trips like this a year plus a 10 day trip in late October.

We do a "long" weekend by leaving Sat AM, paying cash Sat night, then staying Sun/Mon (and maybe Tues). My DH works retail so doing the Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon thing is hard for him anyhow, and my job doesn't really care if it is Fri/Mon or Mon/Tues.

It is an 8.5 hr drive for us so doing Fri PM-Mon AM is impossible without taking Fri/Mon off, and flying is really too $$... might as well pay cash for a night for the diff in 2 person airfare vs driving.

We do long weekends @ least 2 times a year & a full week right after thanksgiving.

Buy less points and do weekends on cash. You'll come out ahead in the long run. We almost never do any weekend days but then we live 4 hours away. We've done two nights total of weekends on points in the 13 plus years we've owned. Stayed many weekend nights though, mostly on II exchanges.

I read somewhere that you can pay cash (25% off rack rate) for any extra nights at your DVC resort. That is a decent perk! Some people do this for weekend nights and save some points that way.

We are in the ROFR right now on a contract and only plan on doing one long weekend (4 or 5 nights ) year. Although I would love to stay longer, I doubt we would have the time with our busy schedules.

It really is a good perk, and we are taking advantage of it for our May trip.:goodvibes However, the 25% off member discount is not always available...you just have to check with MS to see if it is available during your travel dates.
