Long-term U.S. stay and Auto Insurance?

I don't know if anyone can help, but here goes. DS is working at Disney on the year-long Cultural Program. He is coming home for a few days and wants to drive the car back to Florida and keep it there for the remainder of his contract which ends in March. Our insurance broker says that no insurance company in Canada is able to insure you for more than 30 to 60 days out of country. So what do all the snowbirds do about car insurance?

Really, I never heard of that. My Parents go to Florida for 6 months each year and they have never said anything about this.
