I booked a 1brdm SV at my home resort BWV for 5 nights (Sun-Thurs)March 2008. I have an August use year, and borrowed all of the points from 2008.
Now, I would like to change to a Studio Savannah view at AKV at 7 months.

Question #1: Even if I add on 1 extra night, I will still use 15 less points. Does this mean I must use those points before the end of August 2007 now?
If so, perhaps I would book a 1bdrm Savannah view for 4 nights, and pay for the 5th night with cash.

Question #2: What is my best option for doing this? I read in another post that if I call to switch, they would cancel my BWV, and book the AKV, but, in the few minutes, or seconds it takes to do this, I could loose both reservations? :scared1: How likely is this to happen, and am I better to just ask to be put on the wait list for what I want at AKV, or do it on the member web-site? Is there still a chance I could loose both ressies that way too?

Thanks anyone for your input.:)

Question 1 is easier because, since the points are all borrowed, you have to use them before the beginning of August 2008. You borrowed them from your 2008 UY into your 2007 UY which is when the ressie will take place, March 2008.

You could lose both ressies in the change. That's what happened to me for our June trip. Somehow just the Friday before our trip, and after 2 long snail mail letters seemed to have been ignored, someone from MS called, and did find an OVIR at VB for the 3 nights we had wanted. In the meantime, we had been "resigned, but happy" with the 3 nights at SSR that I was able to book. The ressie that we had had since 11 months out that had been lost was also for a SV at BWV. I had been ASSURED by the CM that MS is working on the problem, but really, these things are still happening. I am determined to only change resorts now if I have the points available to hold both reservations.

I wonder if it is different if you are on a waitlist. They are holding your wait listed resort, so they should not lose that one.

If that's true (the waitlisted room is held), will they let you waitlist for your wanted ressie even if it's available when you call? Then it would just go to you at the end of the day or whenever waitlists are done?

Would like to know the answer to that as well.
It looks like that may be the way to go for me.
Anyone out there know the answer:confused3

For last year's F & W, I was interested in staying at BCV. When I called at the 7 month window, BWV was available, as was the Monday night I needed at BCV. I had to reserve both, was on the wait list for Sunday night at BCV, and then cancelled the BWV reservation when the Sunday night came through a few months later. MS told me I couldn't waitlist two nights together at BCV as one night was available and needed to be reserved at that time.

YMMV

If you do go with a 1br for 5 nights, you can always rent the necessary points from a DVC member and have them transferred into your account. It might be cheaper than paying cash for the last night.

If you're afraid of losing the reservation in the time it takes to cancel one and book the other (which can happen), first check and see how many rooms are available. If there's only one room, then it might be taken. If there are plenty of rooms, then you could just book it then and there.

Good luck!
