Fun, fun!!

Just came back from picking my son up from our store (my dh used our son's car because it's AWD - I have 4WD). Holy cow - the roads are bad! There were tree branches down everywhere, power lines down, a car slammed into the side of a light pole, two other cars "making out", ice chunks slamming into my windshield...

I'm sure it's similar in Southern CT and parts of Jersey. Be careful if you have to go out tonight, I'm sure it's only going to get worse.

Yeah the roads are only going to get worse. We have some branches down in the yard and one of the big bushes was split down the middle from the weight of the ice. It was stuck to the front of two of the cars.

My daughter is working tonight (I'm not happy about that) and won't get out until 10:00 or 11:00 if the place stays open. Then she has to open at her other job in the morning. For that one she'll leave around 5:00 am:scared1: . I'd rather her not go in to either jobs, but you know how 20 year olds are.

I'm praying for a snow day from work tomorrow.

How were the roads for both of you this morning? By me they were ok. But there are still side streets that were pretty bad. My son's school parking lot was a sheet of ice when I went there this morning (before I knew it was closed, just missed it on WALK).

I took the day off from work today because of the 2 hour school delay. My road is very icy. The driveway and front lawn is just a sheet of ice.

My daughter said the roads were icy, but not bad  . That's 20 year olds for you. My husband drove into NYC, said there were icy spots, but not bad overall.

Same here with the grass frozen. DH went in the city for a conference and took the train in. He said it wasn't bad. I guess most people took the day off. I'm at work by MacArthur airport and the roads aren't that bad here.

I hope the salt trucks get out and do a good job for you today.

It boggled people's minds that I lived on LI and hardly saw snow, but moved 300 miles south and dealt with it more frequently.

I think my son is going on a field trip to MacArthur tomorrow. Are there many flight delays?

I just checked their website and there is nothing posted regarding delays for the airport. There are delays with JFK and LaGuardia due to the wind.

What state are you in now?

Well I got up like 6 am yest and listened to WALK. It said my kids private school was open. Not on the closed list. They get there and they are the Only bus there!! One teacher said the school was closed. What is up with that. It got on the news so late. They turned around and came right home. My one son has detention after school today and I am not happy he has to come home so late. He said his bus driver is very nice but not a good driver. Also I was trying to listen to news 12 about the boy who was killed in the ATV accident yest. My dh was at mather for something and his friend saw them bringing him in, it was so sad. He said he knew he was not going to make it. Such a young boy. I wish they would put some sand or something on our streets but no such luck. I am guessing that our district here in Brookhaven is one represented by a republican and our nice democratic highway guy probably tells them to forget about us around here. I think since the new highway guy took over our roads our terrible, we have so many potholes in our neighborhood and they never fix anything. Sigh, Sigh, there go my taxes.

I usually walk to the train station in the morning. But my driveway & street were a sheet of ice at 6:15 AM, so I called for a cab--which took about 45 minutes to arrive. But I got on the train in one piece--well worth the $6! Now I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to take a cab home tonight.

DS4 also goes to private school (we live in East Patchogue). They were open yesterday, but with no aftercare. Before care starts at 7 am and I didn't hear the school announced on WALK or see it listed on their website. So I leave this morning a little before 7 am to get him there. I turn on WALK and caught it in the "M's". Get DS to school and there are no cars in the parking lot. Couldn't get a hold of the radio station to find out so I ended up dropping him off at my father's house. I checked the radio website from my dad's and lo and behold, the school is closed. Well, at least I left early enough so that I could still get to work on time. And besides, DS got a treat from pop-pop: breakfast out.

I didn't hear about the atv accident. But then again, we don't have News 12; we have Dish Network. I feel bad for his parents. It's a parent's worst nightmare.

Our district (PJ) has a new phone system which automatically calls for closures, early dismissals, etc. Got a call at 5:15 that there was a delayed opening yesterday - chose to keep the kids home (anyone that knows PJ knows we're all hills and narrow streets) - and sure enough - the kids were sent home early.

Today, phone rang at 5:15am to tell us school was closed. let the machine pick it up and we all fell back to sleep.

Everything is iced over completely. Trees look gorgeus! Even the beach around the harbor is starting to freeze up - very cool. Lots trees and wires down - we lost our power last night from 8:05 until about 4:30 this morning. We heard the transformer blow and it was lights out!

Our district has automated messages calling us to let us know the newsletter is available online, reminding us when school is closed, but not for delays or closures  .

DS had a 2hr delay today I just kept him home. He's only in Kindergarten, he would've gone i n at 11:45, had lunch at 12:15 and by 3:00 they're cleaning up and getting ready to go home.

That's horrible about the boy. How old was he and where was he from? My brother and sister-in-law live in Port Jeff not far from Mather.

My oldest son goes to BOCES (to Republic airport for the Aviation program), talk about mix ups with buses!
