I was told they shed very little as compared to the short haired Chihuahua. My mom has had numerous short haired Chihuahuas over the years and the shedding was awful! :crazy2: Is it true that the long haired ones shed a great deal less?

No, I am sorry to say, the absolutely shed! My long haired chi, Chloe, is tan and white. If I am wearing black and going out, I will not pick her up! If I let her sit in my lap when driving in the car, I BETTER have my lint roller in the glove box.

When I sweep, there are little tumbleweeds of hair in the corners...and when I vacuum, the vacuum is filled with her fur.

I think poodles are non shedders...and maybe bichons and maltese? There are a few others.

I know what you mean...short haired dogs can shed AWFUL and you wouldn't expect it. My mom had a black lab mix...and she had white tile...and his hair was all over the place, all the time!

I love my little chi, though! She just turned 9 last week. I will see if I can post a pic....

not sure if I rmember how to share pics....

Awwwwww!!!!! She's *precious*, and exactly what I had in mind. Breaks my heart to hear they really do shed. DH won't go for that AT ALL. :sad1:

Oh yes they shed!!! My parent's have a long haired and he's white with some tan and between him and their other white dog wearing black is NOT an option in that house! lol I wish they didn't shed though.

Not the best picture of him but my mom is holding Barkey. We now have 1 more dog in the family because my brother has a lab! lol My husband and I are in green holding our Min Pins.

Oh, this brings tears to my eyes because I wanted one SOOOO BAD!

HUTCHY...all the dogs in your pic are adorable! :goodvibes

awww, what a cute "dog family", Hutchy!

Yeah, iloveepcot...I will tell you that my DH really rolls his eyes when he sees all that hair all over me, our daughter, the couch, the floor, etc. Fortunately he does love the dog. If he knew how bad the shedding was, he might not have been keen on getting a long haired chi. To be honest, even"*I* might not have been keen on it!

I purposely do not get dark furniture (like couches and rugs) because I know her light hair will show up on dark fabric. When we do get another dog, it will also be light haired so I won't have the opposite issue.

Ohhh...my new car has black cloth interior. D-UH!!! What was I thinking?

One thing I will say about long haired chis...and this is NOT factual, but rather a word of mouth tip. Supposedly, long hairs are not as yappy as short hairs. This is just a generalization. I am sure there are plenty of people that have quiet short hairs and yappy long hairs. I am just saying...*in general* this is the theory among chihuahua people!

Thanks! We are a dog loving family!!

Um we call our long hair chi Bark Bark! lol And his name is actually Barkey so I'd say they bark just as much! lol

The most laid back dog I've ever seen in my life though is our Min Pin/Chi mix (my daddy is holding him). He hardly barks and don't get excited over much. He is an odd odd little dog though, he is currently obsessed with pears, we've had a pear tree in our yard my whole life and the dog is 10 yrs old and this year he has decided he LOVES pears and freaks out at night when the deer come out to eat them. lol

That's such a cute story! For Christmas or his birthday, you *must* get him one of those gift baskets from Harry & David that have those exotic and very expensive pears.

He's funny, he brings them in the house and keeps one in his bed and at least a couple in the living room at all times.

Here he is with one out in the carport.

Mine (in siggy) sheds at certain times of the year.. When he does though it's pretty bad :( I just keep a lint roller around to clean my clothes before work.

Chi's are sweet little babies!

Wow! What a gorgeous color!!! He "looks" sweet, too. :goodvibes

I have had long hair chi's for the last 14 years...and love the breed. I actually just bought another dog after my Scooter passed away a few weeks back, but, went with a Pom (something different) but part of me wonders if I should have stayed with the chi. You can't go wrong with them!!

This is a pic of Scooter (who passed away 3 weeks ago)

Luvmylittleboy...those babies are *precious*!!!

The little black "teddybear" you just got is adorable! I can see why you were drawn to her and really hope she turns out to be just what you're dreaming of! :goodvibes
