How long does it take normally via taxi? I am finding flights to be $250 (total) cheaper than into SNA via Southwest... That's a big difference considering this is a last minute trip. :)

Usually expect $40-60 ish. Supershuttles and rental cars are other options. Transpo to/from Long Beach is limited and the only hurdle

How about the time it takes? I did read that there is a set amount of $45 FROM the airport, but not from the hotel to the airport. We always fly in to SNA, so that is new to me!

Taxi's from LGB to DLR do a flat rate of $45, and took between 40 and 50 minutes the last time we were there in May '14.

When we took the taxi from Paradise Pier Hotel BACK to LGB, the guest service desk at the hotel gave us a coupon to lock in the flat rate back to the airport.

Thanks. We are only there two days so I am not sure I want to waste 40-50 minutes... Decisions, decisions.

The trip from LGB to DLR is only about another 10 minutes than the trip from SNA.

For the savings you mention, LGB looks very attractive.

Here's a map and info from LGB

I've used both airports. When booking a trip, I'll go to the airport with the lowest airfare.
A taxi from LGB is only a few more dollars and a few more minutes to reach DLR.

Our last trip from SNA (via Uber) was only 16 minutes, door to door... If LGB is only 10 minutes more, I can handle that. I will look more into the various flight times and make a decision ASAP. Thank you all for your help!

We absolutely love Long Beach Airport and also the Jetblue flights and airfare into there from Seattle. I think it is well worth the extra 10-15 minutes driving time. It is a very small airport and easy to navigate, so you save time on that end. Yes, even smaller than SNA. ;)

Same situation with SNA, though. You can get a flat rate one way but not, generally, the other.

Lucky! We got caught in HEAVY traffic last time. Took about 45 minutes to SNA.

LGB is 17 miles from the DLR. Your cab driver can avoid some traffic by taking the side streets. Its a piece of cake.
