So, my family of four plus my parents are heading to WDW this fall (yay!) and staying at the BLT (yay again!), and a logistical issue has come up with a restaurant reservation. I thought I'd seek the wisdom of experienced WDW travelers to help us make a decision.

My spouse and I are sending my parents to Victoria & Albert's as an early celebration of their 50th anniversary (which actually won't happen for several months afterward, but they can't get back to Orlando quite that soon...). I managed to snag two separate reservations, each at 6:30pm, on consecutive nights for the two of them. Now, unless we win the lottery in between now and then, we won't be able to send them on both nights, so we're trying to pick one and release the other one (which I will post on the reservation release thread when I'm about to release it). General background: We will be at WDW in November, and both nights are weekday nights with no special celebrations planned at the Magic Kingdom (I checked). So, the two options:

Day #1: The whole family (minus my dad) will head to Universal for the day. My kids are too little to want to max out the park; our priorities are getting to ride the Minions ride at least once, and experiencing Harry Potter. For my parents to make it to V&A's by 6:30pm, we'd have to get my mom back to the Contemporary in time to change and then travel to V&A's. As further background, while we are quite experienced with Uber, my parents aren't -- we could Uber my mom solo back from Universal to WDW, but would probably need some on-site assistance with Ubering both parents from BLT to V&A's. Not sure yet how we will get to Universal -- since our kids still both need car seats, Uber Family and/or a taxi wouldn't work, and renting a car would not be cheap (though neither would Mead, obviously).

Day #2: This is planned to be our "off" day. We have late reservations at Chef Mickey's for brunch (which my parents would be fine with skipping) and would like to try out the hot-air balloon in Disney Springs. In case you're wondering "why not just have that be the night?" -- that was the one night we managed to get dinner reservations at Be Our Guest. My parents LOVE "Beauty and the Beast" and I really want them to get the dinner experience at BOG. Now, our reservation is for 4:30pm (yes, I know), so theoretically, I suppose, my parents could come hang out with us for an hour without ordering anything, or we could order something for them and take it back to BLT for a later meal. Not sure if having two people at BOG out of a party of six not ordering is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, essentially okay, or something in between, and am trying to avoid racking up bad Disney karma. :)

Advantages of Day #1: My parents could get the full BOG dinner experience on Day #2, and could sleep late the morning after their V&A's adventure (3 1/2 glasses of wine apiece with a split wine flight is still quite a bit!). Disadvantages: Trying to navigate Universal (with my mom the big Harry Potter fan) and then get my mother back in time to change, freshen up, and then make it to V&A's by 6:30pm.

Advantages of Day #2: Removes the need to negotiate Universal AND V&A's on one day and probably ensures a more relaxed environment in which my parents could enjoy V&A. Disadvantages: Uncertain if parents could participate in the BOG dinner experience, earlier wake-up time the next day.

If anyone has any thoughts/reactions/interjections either way, I'd be most grateful, especially if they're of the "OH HECK NO" variety. :) We're getting close to the time that I expect V&A to contact us about the reservation, so I'd rather cancel the one we won't use in advance. BTW, my parents seem fine with either option (at least theoretically), so having some input from Disney vets would be most helpful. TIA!

If you are truly wishing to "avoid wracking up bad Disney karma", then make up your mind and release the ADR you can't use so another couple can experience the wonder of V & A's.
I would choose day 2.

IMHO, you could make this work for either night. Yes, you could uber your mom back to BLT from Universal and you could also simply get a traditional cab. Same for traveling from BLT to V&A's. Simply have your parents go to the valet at your resort and ask the CM's to call them a cab. The valet at GF can then get them a cab back to BLT when they are done. They could also just take the monorail to GF.

If you decide on night 2, your parents can absolutely sit with you and not order anything.

In terms of traveling to Universal with your family, you may want to consider a private car service that will have the car seats you need. Not cheap, but that would ensure traveling with the car seats you want for the transfers. We use Park Ave. Limo.

What a lovely gift!!!
I would go for day 2, far less stressful, and also maybe try for lunch instead of dinner at BOG that day. You still get to experience the beast's castle, and you could then get your parents to V&A on time without angst.
I hope that they have a lovely dinner. Take your time in your decision, do what is right for you, and then ( and only then) release the dinner you don't need.
What a wonderful daughter you are!

I agree it is a lovely gift. However, Why do you believe it is right to hold two ADR's for V&A's when you will only use one???? Some other lovely daughter ( or son) can be unable to gift their parents because there is no opening.
I think doing so is totally selfish. JMHO

ok let the 2 adds go. this is not unusual at all and will be a windfall for some down the line

i would go w day 2. why rush universal day when you don't have to?

I hope they have a great time and happy 50th to them!

1) Once back at BLT, take the monorail to GF from BLT/CR.
2) That would be faster than cab or Uber, and at ZERO cost.
3) And, YES, release one of the ressies as soon as possible.
4) It is unkind and rude to others to take two ressies when you plan to use only one.

She will eventually release them, and someone will get to enjoy them at that time...

I'd definitely do day 2. But I wouldn't try having your parents just sit at BOG while the rest of you eat your dinner. Plus, that won't give your parents much time to get ready for their own dinner. I agree with a PP - try to get a BOG ADR for lunch instead. Your parents should be able to manage getting a cab to and from BLT. Bell Services will get one for them at each resort. Or they can catch the monorail.

In my past expeeience, folks who want V&A on a certain day and didn't get their reservation immediately, are on the waiting list.

I think it's s good thing you're doing!

I'd also pick day #2

OK, if your experience, but I have never heard of a Waiting List for V&A.
. . . if an opening occurred, podium would have to call-and-call-and-call people
. . . and, they do not work until late in the afternoon
. . . then, the guest might have to "check with my wife/husband" to confirm
. . . this would make a further delay to fill the reservation slot
. . . and, if they said no after checking, the phone calls would start again
. . . this would be a real headache for the podium people

Don't pass up the simple option of the monorail from BLT to GF. It's a nice little experience sitting down and watching Disney pass by while heading over for dinner. Plus you get to have everyone stare at you like "***?" when you get on dressed up.

lol @ the people complaining about holding two reservations. To quote the unique writing style of Rusty:
1) deal
2) with
3) it
4) the OP is doing something nice and is going to release the
5) reservation anyways, so who cares

I'm routinely on the waiting list for the Chef's Table. I received a call a few weeks ago and I got it (from the waiting list) for my trip in November.

1. Yes. V&A is very manual. They call and have to be called most of the time.
2. Nope, they are a late afternoon entity.
3. They will hold the reservation for you while you check with your spouse, guest. They are actually quite accommodating.
4. V&A really isn't concerned with delays. (is any Disney CM? The table will be filled)
5. Yes.
6. They have worked there since I started making my annual migration. Same faces, same names. Same smiles. If there is one place at Disney that understands the challenge of a reservation and the importance of many (marriages, anniversaries, birthdays, proposals, etc), it is V&A.

OP - I'd go with day 2. I think that will cause the least amount of stress to your family. I agree with other posters - try to see if you can get in for lunch (or perhaps even breakfast) at BOG. You seem familiar with the cancellation thread on this board - that's how I snagged a BOG dinner reservation just a couple of weeks before my trip last year!

Also, I'm not of the opinion that you're doing anything rude. This trip is, apparently, still 3 months away. It's not like you're holding the reservation until the day before and then dropping it. Whoever gets the reservation you drop will surely be delighted and have plenty of time to work it into their trip. I do think it would be in good taste to make your decision very soon, though.

This is such a nice thing you're doing for your parents! Have a great trip!

Another vote for day 2. Id be too worried about being in Universal. Also, I think if you keep checking you'll get a BOG for the other night.

Day 1. Send your mom in a cab from universal then have them take the monorail. The cms can help them navigate the logistics once your mom is back on site. I think you should eat as a family at dinner at bog. It's so much better than lunch!

All personal opinion - I'm not right, no one else is wrong....

This was a situation PERFECT for a phone call. V&A actually ANSWERS the phone - they LOVE the phone. Because they are VERY "individual customer" directed. THEY will insist on calling YOU, before you get there....

JUST an opinion - OP? You need to call these folks, and just tell 'em what you are trying to do. You are doing a wonderful thing - Israel (GM) is GOING to work with you :). It helps YOU, AND HIM - it does not screw up his scheduling :).

In this age of "online everything" - V&A remains a very personal, one-on-one RESTAURANT. PLEASE - CALL THEM... TALK to them....

(407) 939-3862

Again - All personal opinion - I'm not right, no one else is wrong...

Another vote for day 2. I always make sure to be back in our room for about 2 hours before V&A reservation so that I can leisurely shower and change and make our way there without rushing. It's such an experience that you really want to start the evening totally relaxed and not stressing about being late or how to get there. And while I enjoyed BOG, it's nothing compared to an evening at V&As so between the two it's a no-brainer. Nice if thy can do both but no one wants to get to V&A with heart racing, hot and sweaty and worrying about being late.
