logistics of 7-month ressie change

I'm an almost-member (waiting on ROFR, week-one!)- can't wait to truly have my points. So to pass the time, I'm trying to figure out how we're using our first years' points!

We will definitely book at our home resort, but if we want to try for a different resort at the 7-month window, how does that work? Do I book it day by day (this is for the Dec time frame, so v. popular) and give up my existing ressie day by day? Seems like that way I run the risk of changing resorts every night But if I wait until the real check-out date to call, I'd think I'd have close to zero chance, or be way down on a waitlist.

I do not have enough points to hold two reservations at the same time, unless I borrow. Ahrg, my brain just did a flip. Please help.

There is always that risk within 7 months, but you can call on the first possible day at 7 months and ask what availability looks like for the dates you want. MS will advise if you need to reserve day-by-day. If you are still uncomfortable with the prospect of having to move, just waitlist for the entire reservation. 7 months ahead, the chances of the waitlist working are very good (if needed at all). If you are only missing a day or two, I'd even reserve the other days at the resort you want and then use the automatic/daily waitlist for the missing days - I'm confident they'll become available. The DVC reservation system is very dynamic with many members doing just what you want to do and with others needing to cancel their existing reservation. The flexibility of DVC is it's most important feature.

Thanks, Doc, that helps. I had wondered how much info we can get from MS, but it makes sense that they can advise us about how things look before we're able to change reservations.

I wouldn't be so concerned, except it's for early December, and I keep reading everywhere how busy that is for DVC!
