Logistics after World of Color

So here is the background.
Myself and my son's mother in law are taking 3 grandkids to Disneyland in August. On our last day at Disney, I and one granddaughter will leave our suitcase with bell services at Disneyland Hotel, enjoy the day at the park, then transfer via car service to the Hilton by Universal so that we can enjoy Universal Hollywood for a day, then fly home the day after that. The other grandma is going to stay at Disneyland Hotel with the 2 younger ones that night, and fly home the next day with them.

So originally I was going to leave the parks around 7ish, have dinner in DTD, and schedule our car service at DLH around 8:30, thinking that would put us past the worst of the traffic between Disney and Hollywood, and we could check in and get to sleep at a reasonable hour. My granddaughter is 9.

But, now with World of Color and dessert parties back, I'm thinking that it might be fun to do that. If we do the dessert party, would it be faster to have the car service pick us all up at the Grand Californian, and just swing by DLH to drop off the other 3 people and pick up our suitcase, then continue on to the Hilton?
If so, what time should I schedule the car service?

Just not sure of the timing. World of Color starts at 9, and runs about 30 minutes? I'm a slow walker, so I'm not sure how to gage the time or route to walk to either hotel. I just don't want to get to our Universal Hotel excessively late either.

Do I need to do Virtual Queue if I do dessert party? If we don't get a res for dessert party, can't do WOC, due to DAS holder issues with long waits and crowded situations. Are the Dessert Parties cancellable like other ADRs ?

It used to be that you just lined up for the dessert party ahead of time, but we don't like waiting in lines, so we would get there when the line was already moving. Since the Little Mermaid ride is right by the line, you can ride that if the line looks long. And I never understood why they wanted us to get there early and to stand in a line.... but, we didn't do that. You can cancel 24 hours before and get your refund. I don't think they ever allowed day of cancellations.

The difficult thing about WOC is that everyone moves like extra slow zombies after the show and you will be in a large crowd on your way out. Going through the Grand helps get away from some of that, so I'd get the car service there if that's an option. I don't know about timing because as I said, the crowd was hard to navigate and it moved slowly. If you want to go directly to DLH and get the car there, you can still exit through the Grand to avoid the DTD crowd. As far as arriving at the Universal hotel excessively late, that depends on what excessively late is for you. I think 11:00pm is the earliest that you would get there if you stayed for WOC and it might be closed to midnight.
