I am a loews gold member. I was told that I had 9 qualifying stays so I would be going to Platinum after my recent stay. When I called to check on my status and make sure the stay was credited I was told that they are going to reage the Loews membership accounts. Seems it has not been done in a few years (according to them). I was kind of upset cause that will clearly kick me down to gold again. The Loews person I spoke to said that the 10 qualifying stay requirement for Platinum is for EACH calander year while my stays are over a few years. He said that the computer reads the information so they may kick me up anyway but they are getting ready to reage the accounts and will be doing so every year.

I checked their rules carefully and what he said seems to be true. Does anyone know if this is definately going to happen? I am bummed.

Here is the rules from their website:

12. LoewsFirst Gold membership requires three (3) qualifying stays or six (6) cumulative nights (associated with a qualifying stay or stays), in a single Loews Hotel or any combination of Loews Hotels, in a calendar year. LoewsFirst Platinum membership requires ten (10) qualifying stays or fifteen (15) nights (associated with a qualifying stay) in a single Loews Hotel or any combination of Loews Hotels, in a calendar year. A calendar year is defined as January 1 through December 31. Retaining membership in LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum requires meeting the respective criteria for LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum each calendar year. LoewsFirst members who were LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum members prior to June 1, 2003 will retain that status through December 31, 2004, unless a higher status is achieved based on the above stated criteria during the calendar year 2003 or the calendar year 2004. LoewsFirst Blue members and new members will become LoewsFirst Gold or LoewsFirst Platinum members when they meet the above stated criteria. Once a Member attains a tier level, this level will remain in effect through the end of the subsequent calendar year. Post-enrollment stays recorded beginning January 1, 2004 are eligible toward tier-level qualification for the calendar year 2005. Thereafter, Members must requalify each year for the following year's membership

That's a bummer for sure. I'll never be able to retain my Platinum membership!

This part of the message seems like these rules are very old. I seriously doubt that once you attain a certain level they would take it away from you. I remember this same thing being discussed on the boards about two years ago and nothing came of it. I hope Loews continues to do things they was they have been doing it.

It has always been my understanding that you had to maintain the Platinum status yearly. Loew's just didn't enforce the rule. Like everyone else, I really hope they don't start now. I can kind of see why they would though. We book using the FL resident rate, so we don't get credit for stays at Universal hotels. If we did, we'd have no problem making Platinum status. They may be giving away many more suite upgrades than expected. These freebies mean someone w/o a Loew's membership can't book that room, therefore paying a higher rate for it.

I've been hoping the policy would become more lenient allowing us to get credit for our stays at Universal. I definitely don't want to see them tightening up on the program. That doesn't bode well for anyone.
