Lodging Recommendations for Brunswick GA driving stop on I-95

So we are driving for the first time at the end of November. Usually it is just my family so we have sprung for airline tickets - now that there are going to be lots of us we have decided to drive. Although we are only 11 hours and 35 minutes away according to Google maps and my husband and I could do it, we are going to be caravaning with MIL and FIL and they have requested a stop.

For us, Savannah is still almost five hours out so that doesn't seem far enough, and Jacksonville is over nine hours away which will probably be a bit far for said relatives. When looking at the map the only other choice seems to be Brunswick.

I need some hotel recommendations from anyone who has stayed in the vicinity. Preferably clean and a wonderful breakfast spread (or near a Dennys, IHOP, or Perkins) so we can eat a nice filling meal.

Thanks for help...

We've stayed at the Embassy Suites in Brunswick before. It's attached to a mall that has a Ruby Tuesday's. They have a great (free) breakfast buffet at the hotel, too. If I recall correctly, there is a Ryan's steakhouse nearby as well as a Wal Mart and several other dining options.

I hope the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce isn't looking but.
Brunswick is a nice little city all in all but...they have a paper mill and depending upon the wind direction it can be kind of odiferous.

Most of the major hotel chains are there and there is a lot of name brand and local food places in the area. A few selling "Wild Georgia Shrimp" (what does that conjur in your mind?)

Brunswick is also home to the one of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center campuses and some of the hotels are used to house students when the center dorms are full. So I would definitely have a reservation with the large group you have. It is about 4 hours to Orlando from there.

Kingsland to the south is home to Kings Bay naval base and has a few hotels.
Darrien to the North has some outlet malls and motels but also has the Cafe Risque :sad2:(you will see the billboards on the way down.)

If you have to travel the Baltimore-DC-Richmond corridor depending on the time of day you could add an hour or two to your google time. So Savannah may not be so bad. Gas is cheaper in Virginia and SC as a norm

You can just go to google maps and type in motel then the town name and state and a list of motels should pop up.

read reviews about the Brunswick Days Inn on google. :scared: Based on those I wouldn't stay there.

We have stayed at a Hampton Inn in Brunswick a few times. It is right off I-95, very easy to get to. The lower level has exterior doorways, but the upper levels are interior. It has always been pretty full when we have stayed there. They have a good continental breakfast in the mornings. Cracker Barrel is directly across the street, along with Krystal Burgers. Sonny's Barbeque is maybe a half mile up the road, along with a grocery store, if you are looking for a dinner option or need some groceries.

Thanks for all the info. I for one think it would be better to have a reservation so that we have a goal instead of a let's see how long we can make it.

We also would be traveling in a group of six so having adjoining rooms would be nice especially once the kids go to bed.

Fortunately we live just south of Richmond so we don't pick up I-95 until the Petersburg area. Believe you me I am very familiar the woes of I-95 and too many people from traveling north to visit family. :)

It has been about 4 years, but I have stayed in the Park Inn (formally the Holiday Inn) and it was pretty clean. The breakfast was continental. (We haven't stayed there recently because we drive straight through from Frederick, MD.)

Last summer we met my sister and her family in Glen Allen, VA. It was her and 3 boys - 12, 10, 2. In our car it was DH, I, Dad 77 and DS 12. We stopped at the Marriot in Brunswick. We had a blast. There was a small pool, the boys swam. We went and ordered KFC - most have closed up here in MA, and ate at a nice gazebo at the pool. There is a bowling alley next door if you have the urge. In the morning we had a free hot breakfast buffet. It was an easy drive. Lots of fast food and restaurants in the area.

Have fun with the old folk!! My dad will get grumpy on the trip - but when he runs to get his picture with certain characters - it's a hoot.

Yeah, we are only 20 min or so from Glen Allen so if you all stopped there it must be a good break.

This is my MIL and FIL's very first trip. I hope that Grandpa really can look past the things he thinks he is going to hate and just try to have fun!! I am sure that my boys ages 4 and 2 will help with that!!

Just remember they will have their "quirks" and try to live with it. LOL My DF would get up early every morning and go for a walk. Dad - your going to walk about 6 miles today - you don't need to go for a walk. But he does anyway. My Dad does not like the food prices. He will never admit he has a good meal. It's too expensive - mind you - he isn't paying for it. We had the DDP - forget it - too much food.

Just ignore them and don't let it get to you. The thing my father loves?? The buses. Go figure. He just turned 77, and we are grateful for every trip with him. It will be a different trip, but one you will always remember.

We also stay at the Hampton Inn in Brunswick and will be doing so again in September. It's right next door to a Cracker Barrel and a few other spots are right nearby. We've found it to be clean and quiet each time we have stayed there. The breakfast also includes hot sausage and eggs if I remember correctly.
We always get an lower level "exterior" room--car parked right outside the door making luggage handling a breeze.
