I saw makeovers on Oprah and they donated the long ponytails to locks of love so when i had a major hair cut last year after graduating from high school I wanted to do it really badly but I missed the requirement by an inch :(

I would hope everyone who's having that amount of hair cut off anyway would do it as it's completely painless and does so much for a child's self esteem

i have heard of it and think it is such a neat organization.

So far 4 people at work have managed to contribute! 3 girls, and one guy!!! Another girl's hair is getting closer - we measured yesterday. My hair would never grow that long.

I think this is such a great thing - I can't wait for this next person to donate - she is a natural blonde!!!!

We had a beautiful young lady from my school donate. She was a 3rd grader at the time. She is now almost ready to do it again as a 7th grader.

funny - I just had my hair cut for this organization while at WDW - did it a the Beach Club wonderful experience. (I couldn't find anyone in Birmingham who knew about this organization).

going thru the boards and found this..thought I'd see if anyone has anything to add :)

I can add something.
I can't find a link, but I read a story this weekend in a Madison Wisconsin newspaper about an 86 yr old woman who recently donated some hair to Locks of Love. She and her twin sister had cut their 20 inch long braids off in the 1920s. She kept the braids because the 2 of them had never had their hair cut before that. She recently heard about Locks of Love and decided to donate their hair. The organization indicated that hair keeps well and they were happy to have it.

Wheelsie, that link to the old post on the CB is to the old boards, and I couldn't find it... do you have another link to information about the organization?

If any of you you know who Sammy Hagar is (previous lead singer for Van Halen)- just thought I'd mention that he had his head shaved for Locks of Love. He did it on Leno a year or so back. At the time he had gorgeous blond long curly hair. It was to be given to a little girl in need (from the organization). I thought this was one positive example of a celebrity using his status to bring more awareness to this wonderful organization.

I can add something to this as well! :)

I just recently had my hair cut...I had very long hair, down to my butt and decided that it was just too hot and too hard to care for any longer, so I searched around for a place that donated hair to Locks of Love, while on vacation in New York...I found one and had it done right then...12 inches of hair cut off, no looking back...they cut it off in one piece, braided it, put it in a ziplock bag and brought it to the back room...I felt so good for doing it...I was glad I had decided to do this and I hope that my hair will make someone very happy! :)

Im gonna see if I can find a new link to the old post..hold on folks

couldnt find the old thread...but here is the wepage for the organization

At least we have that part of it! and thats all thats important :)
