What pools are "locked" meaning you have to have a key card to get into them I know that AOA is and so is the Beach and Yacht Club what other ones are? LET ME BE CLEAR WE ARE NOT POOL HOPPING !!! I have been asked this question by a friend looking to book a resort and she has teens who dont always remember to take their key cards and she does not want "pool issues"

Not "locked" that I know of for sure.....

Perhaps it would just be easier to tell us which resort you are staying at. One of us will be able to tell you if you need your keycard to access it.

Bay Lake Tower
Kidani Village (AKV)
YC/BC/BCV - Stormalong Bay needs a KTTW to enter.
I've seen BW - Luna Park gated in the summer.
I seem to remember needing a room ID to get a towel at the Swan and Dolphin.

I've seen BW - Luna Park gated in the summer.

I have stayed at the BW multiple times in the summer, and I have never seen the Luna Park pool gated. You would need to have numerous Cast Members working "guard duty", as there is more than one way to enter the pool, and this just isn't feasible.

What I have seen sometimes on weekends is Cast Members asking for resort ID's, and then giving out wristbands. I have been told that this is mainly to keep out the locals, and not other pool hopping WDW guests.

We have stayed at AKV - Kidani & while the pool has a lock on it they do not use it.

I have also found this at other resort pool locations. Anyone can get in. I have never been checked at a resort pool for ID either.

Just my experience. I have always wondered why they have security if they are not going to utilize it.

Only exception was Storm along Bay at YC/BC. This was enforced during our stay here, you had to be a resort guest.

Honestly, this would be the time for the teens who "don't always remember to take their key cards" to remember to take their key cards. Those things should be with them at all times as well as photo ID and medical insurance cards. That latter two with them at all times in their normal lives as well.

If the teens are old enough to be left alone to go to the pool and behave responsibly, they should be old enough to understand the need for valid ID.

Hi at luna pool this summer, was a Cm asking for room keys it was the first time i see that at the boardwalk pool, the others are BLT, KIdani but they don´t lock it, AOA but they losck it sometimes, Stormalong bay at BC

bolding is mine....
seriously??? your medical ins card on you at all times? we only have one card for our ENTIRE family, so guess what? That's just not possible. And if you need emergency care, you can always give them the billing info after the fact. They're not going to say "Oh Wait! We need your ins info before we treat you." I agree it's important to have your photo ID on you MOST of the time but if I were going swimming, I would leave it in my room where it was less likely to get stolen so that I would have it to fly home. I really don't need a photo ID to swim. I leave mine in my safe when travelling like on the cruise (except for excursions) and at WDW unless I know I'll need it. Things gets lost and stolen EVERYWHERE. Why take unnecessary risk to lose something that you 'really' don't need to have on you anyway?? at a pool??

Nope, they actually had a temporary fence with two gates around Luna Park pool when we were there a few years back. It was a holiday time (maybe Easter/Spring Break) and pool hopping was blacked out. Anyone entering the gate had to show a KTTW showing they were staying at BWV/BWI.

AMEN...... I would not encourage Teens or Adults for that matter to carry anything valuable including photo ID's or KTW cards (charging ) to any pool it is so easy for things to get stolen while you are swimming

Taking medical insurance cards to the pool? That's nuts

There are some pools (as stated) that every guest will be required to show/use a KTTW to enter the pool. No KTTW, no pool entry. Plus if you choose to purchase an alcoholic beverage at the pool, you'll need to be able to pay for it, plus prove you are legal age.

The OP asked which pools today are locked when you enter them, not what happened a few years ago.

You originally said you saw it gated in the summer, now it is maybe Easter/ Spring Break. I have stayed at the BW in the summer months for the last 7 years, and the pool was never locked with a gate.

I said in NORMAL life. And after having a medical emergency where my husband was miles from me, a photo ID and a medical ID are crucial to me (and my husband was able to be notified of my accident and there was no hesitation of getting me treated). To each his or her own but I never leave the house without either now. Also have the ICE (In Case of Emergency) number on my cell phone as well.

We've stayed at the Poly & we were asked for our cards at the pool & of course the Beach & Yacht club pool also requires your room card too.

If you reread MY quote I stated I don't need to bring my DL to swim. I don't put charging privileges on my KTTW for the very reason of it getting lost/stolen but understand if you are swimming at a gated pool the need for your KTTW card. I wouldn''t need my DL for alcohol at a pool either. ;) But honestly, I don't even USE the pools at WDW!! I don't even LIKE them!! LOL!

Yes I understand IF the pool is gated you will need your KTTW card That is the reason for the question about what pools require them..!!!!!
