OK everybody here's your chance to have a good laugh @ my expense, but what is a lock-off? My understanding is that it's 2 separate spaces Ie:a 1 bdrm & a studio joined together . Is that correct? :confused3

Thanks in advance,
Irv

YAY!!!
just one more thing. So then you pay for both rooms as if they were two separate reservations?

No; if you are getting a one or two bedroom it is one reservation. This just allows DVC to adjust the size of the rooms with what their needs are for upcoming reservations. Sometimes it can be a studio; sometimes it can be a second bedroom.

I'm a little confused there. Say i want a 1 bdrm.& a studio, how would they charge the points for the reservation?

You want them as separate 'rooms'? That would be two reservations and you would need to leave your villa and go knock on the door of your guests or family and they may be down the hallway or a different building. If you want them so they act as 'one' villa, then that is one reservation.

For instance, we just got back from AKL. Though we had a dedicated two bedroom, the situation will hopefully shed light on your confusion. We went with my best friend from college and her family. We slept in the master, our kids were in the living room and my friends were in the second bedroom. Their room did not have a door that left the villa but if it was a lock off; it too would have had an exit door to the hallway. Instead, when they left their room, they walked into the living room/ kitchen and exited through the shared 'front' door as so did we.

If you book a 1 bedroom and a studio, you get charged points for each. If you book a 2 bedroom lock off, then you get charged the points for a 2 bedroom.

Ok, i think i have it. There's no such thing as a studio/1 bedroom lock-off, but you can have a 2 bedroom lock-off?

No..there are both dedicated and lock off studios and 1 bedrooms as well, just not everywhere. But, with studios and the 1 bedrooms, it doesn't matter in most cases whether your studio/1 bedroom is one, since the door just stays locked.

Sandy,
Been a long work day but I"m going to ask 1 more question. As far as points and booking ,say i wanted a bedroom/studio lock-off @ OKW,vs. a 1 bedroom /studio . Say I was booking in late April ,what would be the difference (approx) in points needed?

Check the top of the page. Enter your dates and what you want. Enter a two bedroom and enter a studio and enter a one bedroom. Combine the points for the two bedroom with the points needed for both the one bedroom and the studio.

It seems a 2 bedroom is the points less spent.....So you get more travel,,,,,does OKW have many 2 bedroom lock-offs?

Yes, but when you book a two bedroom they usually give you a dedicated two bedroom unless you request a lock off.

per the DVC resource thread stickied above (it's a useful thread to check out):

OKW - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 274 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 230 Lockoffs - 27 Grand Villas = 531 Units / 761 Max. Available Rooms

a 2BR lockoff is called that because there is a door in the middle that you can "lock off" to split the 2BR into a studio and a 1BR. the dedicated 2BRs don't have the door and can only be booked as 2BRs (so there's no need for a kitchenette in the 2nd bedroom...or 2 exit doors).

One thing to remember, though, is that when you book as a 2 bedroom, even though you can shut the door in-between the rooms (and may even be able to lock--not sure), the KTTW cards would be the same and could open each side.

So, its a great option when traveling with family but would not be so great if you wanted to make sure each had their own privacy...

yep - and if it's booked as a 2BR, i don't think you can use separate credit cards for charging things to the room, either.

This is not true. We just got back from a May trip. Our KTTW cards worked on the same door but were under different credit cards. We received different itemized bills at the end of the trip. My friends received theirs under the door and we received ours as an email.

When you check in, have both parties walk up and ask the CM to put the different credit card numbers under each name. They will go person by person and assign the person under the credit card you desire.

We have done this twice.
