Hello! I was wondering who else here had a reception at the Living Seas? I needed some input on some things...

First of all, how many guests did you have? Did it feel like it was crowded or was it pretty roomy? We were told that the venue can fit up to 84 people, but if need be, they can add 2 more tables to the side to make 100 people fit, but I'm not sure about the side tables cause I feel like they'll feel like outcasts.

How did you decorate the place? Their basic linens looked pretty good to me, so I was wondering how much more we needed to decorate it.

Did you add a dance floor? Their add-on dance floor looked pretty small to me. Is there enough room for a DJ and dancing space? Did your guests actually get up and dance?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! And if you have any pictures/links, please share! Thank you!!

I didn't have my reception there, but I can tell you that I went to a party there in May that was maxed out at 84 people, and it didn't feel crowded to me. In fact, we didn't even use the lower level - most of the people were sitting at tables on the upper level the whole time.

Here are some terrible pix I took!

Thank you so much for the pics! The white linen looks pretty nice with the blue. We're trying to keep our guest list to 80 people, but it looks like we might exceed that, so I think we will have to use the lower level for the extra tables.

We were married there earlier this month and we only had 40 people though. We had the linens on the table changed out to a floor length white linen and the chair covers were added too! They had to put a different tyle of chair in there instead too due to the covers! We just used 3 different vases in the middle with petals/gel/floating candles on each table that are different heights. Honestly, when you are inside it truly doesn't need much "Dressing up". Surprisingly, people did dance! We didn't expect anyone really to because of the group we had but they did! I wouldn't add on the dance floor honestly since there is plenty of space on the lower level! HTH!

Our reception was there in May 2008. We used the standard linens. I wanted cheaper center peices, so we rented from Disney Floral, bubble bowls, that had one white candle, sand, blue glass and some sea shells. They came out great and were just $35 per table.

We had 35 guest. We had a lot of room. It was nice.

We didn't do the dance floor. There was pleanty of room for the DJ and dancing. We had a group that really enjoyed dancing so they got up and danced. We also had a great DJ. DJ Charles Miles. He was amazing, really read our guest well, very nice, my husband even qued up a song, which made for cute photos.

Living Seas is a great location. If you are interested you can have Scuba Mickey come down and say hi. We did and the guest really enjoyed it and made for great photos.

we are having our wedding there in october. I have a TON of pics in my (pathetic) PJ of our site visit for living seas if it helps you.

I also have the floor plan in jpg and pdf - PM me with your email address if you want me to send it to you.

Thank you! All this is very helpful. I visited the site, so I know what it looks like, but just wanted to hear other brides experiences on how many guests they had and if everyone enjoyed it. So far, it all sounds good!

We will be having about 80-100 guests, so I hope that will be okay. And I guess I'll leave the dance floor option out since they do have a nice lower floor level.

jspahn - I will have to check out your PJ as soon as I get a chance!!

If you love the whole underwater theme/ambience, you'll love it! We just had our reception at the Living Seas in June 2009. I posted our proof website of pics from Misty; She took over 1000 pictures of the reception alone. The link is in my PJ, page 5. You're more than welcome to check it out. :)

We originally were going to max it out at 104 guests too and planned to add the two tables on the lower level where the cake normally goes. Unfortunately, due to various circumstances throughout my family, we ended up having 62 guests. It was very comfortable and had more than enough space. We didn't have the dance floor put in and guests had no problem dancing on the carpet of the lower level. Between both levels, the food area and bar, there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out.

We also kept the navy linens with apple green overlay. We used them as the basis for our main wedding colors. Our centerpieces were circular mirrored bases with three heights of rented glass cylinders each with seashells, lily grass, gel and a floating candle. We thought the candles would give the room a little more romantic feel since the room is modern. Because the tables only seat 6 each, huge centerpieces (i.e. for ballroom tables that seat 10-12) might look enormous and people might not be able to talk to each other...unless that's a good thing if they don't like each other. :rolleyes1

HTH!

Thank you! That is very helpful!! I am going to check out your PJ now!

Having done many receptions at Living Seas, I can tell you the decor is second to none. 100 guests will be tight, but remember the room is long. The DJ is set up on the lower level.

I've been there with and without a dance floor- of course my preference is to have a dance floor, because it "invites" your guests to dance. Without it, you can still have a rockin' party, but people are a little more reluctant to dance on the carpet alone.

And by the way- Scuba Mickey will have ALL your guests talking!

Hope this helps...
