Day 1

Hello everyone. My DW and I arrived at WDW this afternoon to begin our 12 night, largely DVC odyssey. We're saving weekend points here at the beautiful Dolphin until moving into BLT on Sunday, then AKL, then SSR. We're here with the grandparents, three nephews (7, 10, 13), and their mom (DW's sis), all first timers.

DW and I arrived ahead of the rest of the clan. Have a lovely 3 room suite here. Impressed with the opulence of the Dolphin. Wow! Not a bad first stop. Room overlooks the water and we could see Illuminations from the room tonight!!

Once all arrived, I went on a journey to Epcot guest relations to upgrade 10-day park hoppers given as a gift into DVC discounted annual passes. The hoppers were more expensive than APs. Sweet!! Even have a balance in a Disney gift card.

However, I did this solo at 2:30. The boat was so stifling that I got out at Yacht/Beach and walked. All was fine, got the passes, walked into Epcot for 5 minutes just because I could, and then eschewed the boat to walk back. Big mistake! Boardwalk was radiating heat at nuclear fission temps. Thought I might begin hallucinating, so I found a DVC model villa and got some A/C! By the time I was back at Dolphin, I knew this "go rest at your resort each afternoon" advice was for real.

We drove to AKL for dinner at Boma. Checked out the animals first, of course. Nephews were awestruck by a giraffe right next to them. Boma was rocking and so, so good. Now I'm sipping a beverage by the fountain in the Dolphin lobby and anticipating tomorrow's early HS and a later dinner in Mexico, followed by Illuminations. Praying self-misters hold up.

Catch you all tomorrow with scoop on first full day.

Sounds like your off to a great start! Can't wait to hear more about your trip. It will be interesting to go along as you change resorts.....wondering which you will end up liking the best and why. Have Fun: goodvibes

Subscribing.
We check in to VWL the day before you check out. This trippie will make the waiting soooo much easier. Thanks!

We have never been to WDW during the summer, so I can imagine how hot it gets. We usually go in October and have had days in the 90's.

Illuminations is fantastic, enjoy the trip and keep posting when you can - look forward to reading more

Pace yourself and don't over do it. Keep a eye on the Grandparents and try to keep them cool. The Florida heat can be a killer if your not use to it. :headache:

Looking forward to your next reports. :goodvibes

Thanks for the comments. They'll keep me going with this report! Forgive any fatigue-induced bad grammar.

Day 2 (first full day of fun)

So we are quite pleased with our two day prelude of the Dolphin, although dying to get to our DVC home tomorrow. This resort continues to impress. Kids and other fam wanted to sleep awhile, so DW and I ate breakfast at one of our favorite spots: Fresh Med. Market. I just love the variety this place, one of the better buffets. And a DVC discount.

Then we rallied the troops for the boat to DHS. Grandmom (Nana) decided to sit out the heat until Epcot tonight, and grandpop joins us at WDW tomorrow. Waited almost no time and stood for rope drop. Took 2 of the 3 boys right to RRoller and TOT while DS got Toy Story Fastpasses. What a way to start a 13 day trip, with my all-time favorite roller coaster! And we loved the slight mods to TOT. After doing TS at 11:00, we had to hightail to ADR at Sci-Fi. New to us and a real treat. Was amazed how chill everyone was, transfixed by the film reel. A needed break, as heat was tough, but not as bad as yesterday. Then we saw Indy, kids did Star Tours (last week ever) and we saw Mermaid.

All in all a good DHS start. Next spent some time enjoying the Cabana pool bar with DW (crab eggrolls!) and our DVC 20% off.

We got Nana going in a scooter and decided to walk to Epcot. She was flying! I wanted one myself. Toured World Showcase briefly, did Maelstrom (Nana's first Disney ride) and got around to San Angel. Got a table right by water, which boys loved. They became obsessed with watching the volcano. Some mole sauce later, we jumped on the boats for some Donald and then went out and settled in for Illuminations.

Boardwalk was hopping on way home; took Nana into the resort lobby to cool down. Can't wait to use some points there!!

Tomorrow it's off to BLT for the first time. Live report coming up then!

Sounds like you are having a fantastic time! :yay: Sounds good so far! :thumbsup2 Soooo very ready for our stay :woohoo: I'll be checking in to see how things go! :cool1: Do watch that heat....I fell victim to it one year  in the line for Splash Mountain and got to ride in an ambulance...not really an E ticket ride! :rotfl: :lmao: Though the EMT's were great! Lots of water! :thumbsup2 Enjoy!!

walked into Epcot for 5 minutes just because I could

Love this comment! :thumbsup2

We just purchased AP's for the first time back in May... even though we most likely won't be using them for awhile, I keep them in my jewelry box just so I can look at them every day and know I could walk into a Disney theme park at a moments notice!

Have a great day - can't wait to read more :)

Off to a great start :thumbsup2 Love going along with you on the trip ;) As ddoconnell said drink water with the heat. When the heat is extreme we freeze our water bottles and then take them into the parks with us. As they melt they stay cold much longer and keep us hydrated for the morning. Can't wait to hear more. :goodvibes

oh great report. love the updates. can't wait to hear your thoughts on BLT

Hi BLTWildcat,

Thank you for taking the time to post! You sound like you're off to a great start! :)

It's a great beginning to your trip. Don't forget we want to go along for the ride so keep us updated if you have time.

Hello everyone! Sorry this took so long, with Day 4 well underway, but EMH at MK until 2 am messed with my nightly writing!

We are settled in a beautiful BLT. I am on the balcony of my 16th (top) floor room. What a view! We overlook the pool and the lake, and are steps from the TOWL. Fireworks last night of Summer Nightastic were beyond my wildest dreams. Tear-inducing for sure. Walked over with various family at 9:50 and had no problem getting a spot on the observation deck next to the lounge.

EMH were awesome. Not too hot, and my 74 year old father in law stuck it out. He loved Philharmagic the most. I will embed more MK observations into a report later tonight or tomorrow morning on Day 4. Spent time at Grand Floridian today and am rushing out now for dinner at Crystal Palace and some FPs I hope to score for Splash Mountain. Then back to the deck for Fireworks Night 2. It REALLY beats jostling with the crowds!

Much more later on BLT thoughts, etc. Skyway closed for the week for resurfacing by the way...Oh, well.

See ya soon!

We just returned from BLT on Friday of last week. We have found our all time favorite DVC. Location, location, location, can't beat it. Bought points last year for BLT on the cruise and so glad we did (own also at Saratoga). Stayed the first 5 days at BCV (enjoyed, much smaller room though), moved over to 'that other park' for two days, and then to BLT. Talk about relaxation. Sat on that balcony, facing the marina, pool, and Contemporary, every minute i could find. To be able to see Spaceship Earth, Animal Kingdom, and, in the far distance, the Earful Tower at Studios, what more can we ask for.
I'm not a fan of contemporary furniture, styles, but I am NOW a fan of BLT.
Thanks again for all the updates. I'm feeling like I'm still there (well, maybe NOT) thru your reports. Sorry to hear about the skyway bridge, though. We did use that all the time. Oh, also enjoyed the food at Contempo Cafe...hope you find time to try it.
