On day 1 of our ultra-exclusive ABD (Adventures by Davey) trip in California we went to Hollywood to check out the El Capitan Theatre. Again, everyone's been so welcoming on our trip - check out the marquee of the theater.
Seriously, the El Capitan was great, and we were met by the general manager of the theater who gave us a tour and the history. He was hired by the El Cap in the late 80's when the theater was bought by Disney, and he was directly part of the rennovation/restoration of it. It's such an impressive venue.
After the tour, we watched Cars 2. I felt a little funny being in this great new city, and the first thing we do is see a movie that we could have seen at home. However, we were all pretty exhausted from traveling yesterday, and this seemed like a good way to ease into vacation.

I have to say, we thought the movie was just OK. Cars wasn't one of my favorite Pixar movies, and this was an adequate sequel. Even Maggie, DD13 just thought it was an average movie. Evie (DD10) did really like it though.
The cool thing was, after the movie we could go behind the El Capitan Theatre to the Cars 2 "World Grand Prix" attraction. This was a whole outdoor interactive attraction built on the football field of Hollywood High School. It was such a gorgeous day, and it felt great to be outside.
Of course, the characters were there, and you could pose for pictures with Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, and Finn McMissile. The full-size
Lego Lightning McQueen was there too - very cool!
There was a cool "time trial" race track set up where you could race on pedal cars and tricycles. Evie and I raced each other on trikes and just laughed and laughed. In the "Paris" section you could bungee jump.
I didn't know bungee-ing was big in Paris, but hey, what do I know? And after we were done, we topped it off with a stop at the Disney Soda Fountain for a milk shake and sundae snack. Well, that's it for today. We're having dinner at the "Cool Aunt's" house, and we'll all turn in early.
