We have been on the DDP for 2 days now. First time ever on it, and to me it seems great. I wasn't spoiled with free tips and all that before, so can't compare. I can say that anyone complaining that the appy is gone must eat a LOT of food. Today we ate at Sci-Fi and I can't imagine having an appy, full meal and dessert. In fact, we had milkshakes (included) and burger/fries, and I couldn't even finish the burger. We did not order dessert. So to imagine appy/dessert as well - WAY too much food for me (and I have a decent appetite).
Since we didn't want dessert, she gave us bottles of water to take into the park with us - so that was really cool. Saved me $$ on water/drinks later in the day. She said you can always request a bottle of water in lieu of dessert.

Last night we at at liberty tree - it was TERRIBLE. Completely inedible food. This is one we were looking forward to, but it was disgusting. The buns had an odd taste, and the salad was limp and gross. Then she brought dinner and the turkey tasted processed, the beef tasted like salt - extreme amount of salt. The potatoes had an odd taste and were gross. The beans were ok, and the mac & cheese is what we used to fill ourselves up. Do yourself a favour and don't eat here.
Also, the server was rude and would disappear for long periods of time. She never refilled our drinks, and it took her nearly 20 mins to bring dessert (which was actually good).
Then she came over with the bill and I said we were on the DDP, and had already told both her and the front check in that we were, and she huffed and stormed off and came back with the right bill. Then she opens the black folder and says "THIS IS WHERE YOU WRITE MY TIP - YOU CAN CHOOSE 18 OR 20%, MOST PEOPLE TIP ME 20%". HUHHHHH?????? Quite honestly I was really put off. YOU don't tell ME to tip you, and that most leave 20%!!!!!!!!!!!
So I said "Well what if I want to tip cash?", then she said to leave it blank.
I have to admit, she was a terrible server - we saw her when she brought our food, rushed us through it, never refilled drinks and was just miserable. Then she had the nerve to tell me to tip her 20%.
This is the first time in my life I have not left a tip - so go ahead and flame me if you need to, but I was really put off and not going to tip her at that point. Yes, I stiffed her. Hopefully she will realize WHY she got stiffed. If she hadn't makde that last comment, I would have tipped and forgotten the bad service.

So what disney is doing, is making you write in your tip, then the server will take off, run your card, and come back. It feels kinda awkward to tip, then sit there while they see what you have tipped when they bring the bill back. I like to tip as we are leaving, or just on the bottom of the credit card bill - but this way just feels awkward.
So anyone who plans on stiffing the tip, will feel really awkward not tipping, as there is definately a feeling of pressure to tip - and this is how disney is getting around it.

Yes, I stiffed her. .
Oh god that is FUNNY!!:thumbsup2 I believe in tipping/overtipping for good service, but I also will undertip/leave no tip for poor, I think you did the right thing.

We are also currently in WDW on the dining plan, and have also found it good so far.
We ate at Primetime yesterday and our server (Patty) was excellent, we ate at crystal palace today for lunch, our server was very effecient, refilling our drinks very quickly and removing plates, however she did not even say hello to us, did not smile at all.
I also found it uncomfortable having to put my tip on the docket BEFORE they run your card through, so we have decided to tip only in cash, so that we may leave it when we leave.
At prime time we tipped well above the 20%, but I just didn't feel that the server today at crystal palace deserved a great tip, so it was easier to pay her in cash.

On the dockets you are given a suggested tip of 18 or 20%.

One other comment about the snacks, we just tried to buy some snacks at the Contemporary, you are no longer allowed to use your snack credits on an item less than $4. It must be a single serve snack, ie small bottle of drink, small packet of chips, nuts, you are unable to buy the box of donuts, large bottle of milk or anything that is not considered a single serve snack.

There still seems to be some confusion about the new plan in general with some staff members.

I agree with the OP, this is our first time at disney so we can't compare the old meal plan but the meals are huge and there is no way we could eat an appetizer as well.

I agree!

Lollipop's Mom sorry to hear about your experience at LTT. I totally would have stiffed her too! No service=no tip. We have had wonderful meals at LTT so hopefyully yours was just an isolated incident, not the rule. Though I no agree-the Mac 'n Cheese is inedible. But the rest of the food, IMHO, makes up for it.

Heh gogo65, we had Cousin Patty when we were there in Sept. 07. She was great! She made my DD8 clear the plates and take them to the kitchen. We enjoyed her very much and even had her sign my DD's book. Sounds like the same server.

So sorry to hear about the snack changes. We've used DDP 4 times and one of the things we have a hard time using up are the snack credits. Also, didn't know that they eliminated appies. :confused3 I haven read much about DDP since Sept.

I had an ADR at LTT for our next trip. I have read so many negative experiences on this board, I cancelled them.

I really think it's tacky how they are not only giving you the suggested tip amount, but asking you enter it BEFORE they run your CC. I guess, I will bring cash this trip. This way I can leave what I feel is appropriate, without being pressured.

I have been reading how to tip on the boards for the last couple days. One poster said she did not leave a tip because of bad service but if your a table of 6 or larger won't they just charge your room for the tip if you don't leave one. And if you decide to leave cash and write cash on the line that you would write your tip how will they handle it if you don't leave the 18% tip on the table. I'm sure this will all be figured out soon but I am sure glad I'm not going till March. It is hard to leave a tip for someone that asks for it and isn't really deserving.

The giving the tip amount beforehand is the only thing that is rubbing me the wrong way at the moment - We will probably bring cash to tip on our upcoming trip.

Well the changes will be good because waitresses like that will get what they have coming to them and not a guaranteed 18%

I think we'll tip cash. I agree that it's awkward for your server to bring you a bill of some sort for your tip.

Although next week will be my first time using the dining plan, it seems that Disney needs to go back to including the tip.

Hopefully she will realize WHY she got stiffed. If she hadn't makde that last comment, I would have tipped and forgotten the bad service.
.

I hope you spoke with a manager about the poor service you received.

They cannot fix a problem with an employee if they do not know about it.

Lack of a tip does not mean anything to someone who doesn't think they did anything to not deserve one.

JMO, FWIW.
