We are now onboard the Magic...I just stopped down to the internet cafe to let Shirley from the Perfect Gift know how much I appreciate her! Not just for the awesome 6 baskets she made for the kids travelling with the three families in our group...but for the help she gave me on Saturday before we cruised. American had lost one of my bags (the garment bag with our formal clothes)...I called Shirley to see if there were any stores close to the Radisson. Of course, she was an angel and planned my morning...contacted people to help me and kept me calm. THANK YOU SHIRLEY...I found a glamorous dress at Macy's that was better than what I had packed to bring. I called my husband from Avis by noon to tell him I was done finding stuff for all of us...and he informed me the port had to be evacuated and it delayed boarding of the Magic and the Carnival Glory for two hours. Everyone had to wait in the humid heat in the parking lot, no more cars or buses were allowed in and people were getting antsy...and a few ill from the heat. I stayed at the air conditioned Avis office til the port opened. Again, thank you Shirley...you are as magical as DIsney itself!! Enough time here...off to have more fun!!!!!

Wow - I'm glad you were able to find something to wear for formal night - we DISers are really lucky to have folks like Shirley right there as a local point of contact. That stinks that American lost your bag but at least you knew what was in it that would need to be replaced.

What happened about the evacuation thing?

Any word on why the port was evacuated? I didn't leave behind any bags, I don't think.
 
The port was evacuated? HOLY COW! We boarded I guess it was 11:45ish....we must have just missed it!!
 

The port was evacuated because a dog picked up a questionable scent in a bag that was waiting to be put on the ship. This was on the current sailing...May 6 - 13th. Delayed everything by about 2 hours or so.

I tried everyway to find out where you were - Joe from the Radisson called and told me he had been away from work part of the day, but when he finally got my message he called right away to apologize that he wasn't there when he was needed cause he could have done something to help you get to the mall. BTW I got to speak to Carlos and let him know I really enjoyed talking to him - I love it when I have the opportunity to practice my spanish. I didn't realize you was at Avis which is within touching distance from the shop - I would have walked over to at least say hello - glad you were able to find a dress cause I know the stress level was high - did you have any trouble finding the mall? I knew that the port had been shut down AGAIN, but was convinced you and yours were already at the port safety inside - I gave Carlos my cell phone number just in case you needed anything. This is why I tell folks they need to take my phone number just in case of emergency for you always have to have a safe zone away from home.
Anyhow take care and when you get home, give me a call and let me know how things went.
Glad you are having a good time and hope you had a good time in my hometown of Key West.
